Magok Seoul octopus lunch set for three served all at once: Jju Baksa

Looking for lunch near the office, I ended up at Jju Baksa Magok Branch, a spot near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station. I like jjukkumi (webfoot octopus), but I figured stir-frying it and then eating fried rice too would take too long for a lunch break. Turns out the food came out fast and the fried rice was served from the start, so it was better than I expected.

Especially if you work around Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station or Magok, this seems like a good lunch spot! I visited during my lunch break since it's near the office, and I liked that I could eat the whole thing quickly haha.

There were outdoor tables in front of Jju Baksa Magok Branch. Seemed like it'd be nice to eat outside on a good-weather day. There's a park right in front, so the whole area didn't feel cramped at all.

Three things stood out to me as strengths.

• Food comes out fast
• Outdoor tables available for good weather

Parking is available too, so it's convenient if you drive. There are a lot of offices around Magok, so speed actually matters when you're looking for a good spot near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station. No matter how good the food is, if it comes out late you're rushing through your lunch break lol. On that front, this place was solid for a workday lunch.

What comes in the lunch set for three?

We ordered the lunch set for 3 at Jju Baksa Magok Branch. It came with octopus and fried rice, plus steamed egg on the side. Side dishes were perilla leaves, pickled radish, and mayo-dressed cheonsachae (kelp noodles).

Three spice levels: how mild is the lowest one?

You could also choose the spice level for the octopus. There were three levels total, and we went with the lowest.

They told us it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, so I braced for a little kick, but it turned out to be not spicy at all lol. Even someone who can't handle spicy food could eat the lowest level with zero worry. Next time I'd probably go up a level haha.

We wrapped the octopus in perilla leaves and pickled radish, and snacked on the mayo cheonsachae in between. Octopus with perilla leaves is always a great combo.

Why the fried rice arrives with the octopus from the start

What stuck with me most about Jju Baksa Magok Branch was that the fried rice comes out from the very beginning. Usually when you go for jjukkumi, you finish the octopus first and then add fried rice at the end for another round of stir-frying. Here, maybe because it's a lunch set, the fried rice showed up together with the octopus right from the start. So we stir-fried the octopus and fried rice together and ate it right away.

Fried rice mixed with octopus sauce can't really go wrong haha. It felt more filling eating it with rice than just the octopus alone. The steamed egg was nice to have on the side too, and overall it felt like a solid lineup for a single lunch meal.

Why Jju Baksa works for a Magok office lunch break

The reason I'd call Jju Baksa Magok Branch a solid spot near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station isn't just the taste — it's how fast you can eat overall. The food came out quickly after ordering, and since fried rice comes out from the start, there's no need to finish the octopus, order fried rice, and wait again. For office workers with a fixed lunch window, that's actually a pretty big plus.

That said, it didn't feel rushed or skimpy — with octopus, fried rice, and steamed egg, it was a genuinely filling meal. It'd probably be nice for a relaxed dinner too, but personally it felt more like a great Magok lunch spot to me.

The lowest spice level turned out to be totally not spicy, so next time I want to try one level up lol. If you work around Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station or Magok and can't decide on lunch, this is worth a try! Next time I want to eat at the outdoor tables too haha. That's today's record, done.
