In short

This Maetdolroman is genuinely my favorite neighborhood restaurant.. a Korean food spot I can eat at without any hesitation, even as someone living alone. Certified local resident = me.......
I've gone solo many times, I go often with my parents and my partner, and I've even ordered delivery — a truly loyal customer of this place

Outside Maetdolroman Deungchon Branch

It's on the first floor of the Gyeongdong Mirwell 2 building! Not far from Yangcheonhyanggyo Station either

And this — every time I pass by, this giant stone mill catches my eye. They say they grind soybeans fresh every morning to make sundubu and tofu
Inside the tofu restaurant

Plenty of tables inside, with a bit of that classic Korean restaurant vibe

They also sell handmade tofu, and you can take home biji (soybean pulp) if you want it (and the portion is seriously huge..!?)
Maetdolroman menu and prices: what we ordered

The prices are totally reasonable for lunch. And get this — even the side dishes change every day...!!
This time we ordered the Maetdolroman Set Meal ₩13,000 (per person) x2!!!!
(But TMI: my favorite menu item is actually the perilla sundubu) This time we were craving bossam and tofu salad

First thing after ordering: scooping your own sundubu
And here's the routine once you order! Scooping your own sundubu!!

This is such a great warm appetizer-style start! Totally nutty and silky-soft. Because of that, a lot of families come here too. It's perfect for giving to little kids!

After scooping the sundubu, you bring it over with this seasoning sauce and it's complete. You can totally taste the freshness in this tofu..!

Side dishes that change every day
And today's side dishes were kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), acorn jelly, and cabbage wraps! Totally solid Korean side dish lineup. Since the side dishes change daily, it never gets boring no matter how many times you come

What comes with the Maetdolroman Set Meal for two
And the tofu set meal arrived! Tofu salad, plain tofu, bossam, tofu hot pot. It's the set that lets you enjoy everything Maetdolroman has to offer at once

Tofu salad
First up, the tofu salad! The nutty tofu was lightly tossed with seasoning, so the savory flavor came through much more than eating plain tofu alone! Perfect to eat with rice!

Bossam (boiled pork with wraps)
The bossam was boiled tender, and eating it together with tofu and kimchi was exactly the right bossam combo!

Pairing tofu with the meat instead of just eating meat alone made it so much lighter and easier to eat without feeling heavy.
Tofu hot pot
And then the tofu hot pot arrived!! The broth was refreshing and not harsh at all!

A filling yet healthy meal, totally doable!! Easy on the stomach and the broth is clean~!
Not just tofu — it's generously loaded with mushrooms and all kinds of fresh vegetables!!

Bossam, tofu salad, and hot pot all for ₩13,000 per person — pretty solid, right!? Probably why this tofu set meal is so popular haha, seems like almost half the people here order this..!!
After eating your way through the hot pot, mixing rice into the leftover broth is something I just can't resist ㅠㅠ The longer the hot pot simmers, the deeper the flavor gets, so once you try it you're guaranteed to come back to Maetdolroman
Is Maetdolroman worth it for lunch? Final verdict
Once again, I had a delicious meal at Maetdolroman! From tofu to bossam to hot pot, you can eat a really filling meal, making it perfect for lunch and also great to visit with family!
The tofu Maetdolroman set meal is delicious, but the regular sundubu-jjigae is also great here!!! In summer they also serve kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup), and the soybean broth here is genuinely amazing too
Above all, since this is a genuine neighborhood spot I've visited many times, I'd recommend it if you're looking for Korean food or tofu dishes near Yangcheonhyanggyo Station. Highly recommend for solo dining too, and it's a beloved local favorite among neighborhood residents hahaha
