If you're hunting for a naengmyeon (Korean cold noodle) lunch around Daegu's Deuran-gil, listen up. The traditional Golmok Naengmyeon from Geumho-dong in Seoul has opened a branch in Daegu, they say. So I went to check it out, and it turned out to be a great place for tasty naengmyeon and handmade dumplings. On hot days like these, naengmyeon is all you can think about, right? This is a good place to go then.
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu: location, hours and parking
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu is at 79-1 Deuran-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, on the 2nd floor. It's open 11:00–21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00, and closed every Tuesday.

There's a roomy parking lot on the 1st floor of the building, so parking was no trouble at all.

I heard Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 is the first second branch in 60 years. I was so happy that Geumho-dong's famous naengmyeon can now be enjoyed in Daegu too!

What's the interior like, and how do you order?
The interior has fairly wide tables with space between them, so you can eat comfortably. We avoided peak hours, so we could take our time over the meal.

Naengmyeon prices and menu
Every naengmyeon costs the same ₩10,000, and you order through the smart order screen at each table. If you're not a naengmyeon person, there's also kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and handmade dumpling soup, which is nice.

They also sell boiled pork and handmade dumplings as sides. The dumplings are shaped by hand in the shop, so they taste different from store-bought ones.

There's even a separate list of complimentary service items. What a thoughtful owner!
Warm broth, self-bar and facilities
At Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, warm broth is set out first. A cup of warm broth is really nice. They say they make the seafood broth fresh in the shop every day.

The self-bar is well stocked too. I grabbed extra side dishes and the small plates I needed.

Disposable aprons were also placed where you can easily see them. The restroom is clean and inside the restaurant, so no inconvenience there.
And here are the basic side dishes.

What does the mul naengmyeon taste like?
The mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu has plenty of seasoning sauce in the house-made seafood broth, so it tastes close to mul bibim naengmyeon. We ordered mul naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon and dumpling soup. In the hot summer, I truly crave mul naengmyeon.

Maybe because they make the seafood broth in the shop, the savory depth is insane. It's piled with pear and cucumber, so the texture is great and it's just so good.

Above all, the kick is the broth and the seasoning sauce. It's mul naengmyeon, but with so much seasoning in it that you can think of it as a bit of a mul bibim naengmyeon.

Bibim naengmyeon spice level and portion
The seasoning sauce is the kick in the bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, and it isn't hot, just a moderate level of spicy. The bibim naengmyeon I ordered was really good too, and I loved that moderate heat.

Shake shake, I mixed it up. I always used to order naengmyeon at barbecue restaurants, but trying it at a naengmyeon specialist, I could definitely feel the difference. I think the best naengmyeon on Daegu's Deuran-gil is right here at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966.
The portion of naengmyeon is quite generous too, so there was plenty to enjoy.

Bibim naengmyeon with crunchy cucumber is delicious any time.

Good with kids? Tteok mandu soup and steamed dumplings
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu has a dumpling soup with tteokguk tteok (sliced rice cakes), so it's a good place to bring a child. This is the dumpling soup my child ordered.

Since it has rice cakes in it, you can think of it as tteok mandu soup (rice cake and dumpling soup). It's a perfect pick for kids who love rice cakes. With a dish kids can eat too, it's a great restaurant for the whole family.

We also ordered steamed dumplings. The price was really kind, and since they're shaped by hand in the shop, they tasted great too.

Personally, I loved the kimchi dumplings. The moist wrappers and the packed filling were so appealing.

Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu: verdict on a first visit
I visited Golmok Naengmyeon 1966, a tasty naengmyeon spot on Daegu's Deuran-gil, for the first time. I'd heard the famous Geumho-dong place from Seoul had landed in Daegu, so I went, and it didn't disappoint; I left satisfied. At ₩10,000 the price isn't a burden, and the dumpling soup was delicious too, so it's a charming place. If you're looking for a good naengmyeon restaurant near Daegu's Deuran-gil, do give it a visit.
