For my father-in-law's birthday, I went on a mission to serve grilled fish — something we'd never dare cook at home because of the smell! 🐟 I'd already heard great things about 'Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch' as a Suseong Lake spot for parent meals, with its tidy semi-course Korean setup, so I made a reservation ahead and went.

1. Parking and how to reach the entrance
The entrance to the parking lot is a bit unusual, so my husband and I had a brief "wait, which way?" moment, but the signs are big and clear enough that just following your navigation gets you there fine! There's parking on the first floor of the building, and even if that's full, there's a dedicated tower parking lot that supports up to 2 hours — perfect if you're looking for a Deulanguil restaurant that's easy to park at 👍
2. A private room on Deulanguil with no fishy smell at all
Since we'd booked ahead, we were shown to a private, room-like seating area toward the back.
The moment we walked in, we were both impressed by the high ceilings and stylish interior... 🤍 Turns out the building even won a design award!
Even though it's a grilled fish restaurant, there wasn't a hint of fishy smell and the ventilation was excellent, making it a genuinely comfortable Deulanguil room restaurant atmosphere for bringing parents to.
3. The semi-course spread cured with nuruk salt
At Geumdeungeo, they age nutritious mackerel with rice nuruk salt made from natural sun-dried salt sourced from New Zealand's clean waters! That's some serious dedication, right?!
For our family outing of four adults, we ordered the signature wood-fired grilled mackerel (3 servings/₩19,000) along with spicy stir-fried pork (1 serving/₩20,000) and cockle salad (₩9,000)!
Even the basic table setting had an insane number of side dishes, and each banchan (side dish) was so neatly made — it felt like being at a high-end Suseong Lake Korean set-meal restaurant!
And these high-quality banchan can be freely refilled at the self-serve bar too... we were starving so we inhaled them 🫢
4. Mackerel grilled in a 450-degree wood oven, plus the hearty mains
Soon after, the golden-brown mackerel grilled in a 450-degree wood-fired oven made its entrance! 🔥
We were all touched by the thoughtful detail of keeping the induction burner on low the whole meal so we could eat it warm the entire time 💛
Crispy on the outside, moist inside, with all the juices intact — I couldn't stop reaching for it with my chopsticks! My spoon was working overtime too 🐷
Put a piece of the nuruk salt-aged mackerel over some savory Swiss chard soybean paste soup and rice, and the plain white rice turns magically sweet... 🍚
Add the spicy-sweet stir-fried pork and the tangy, chewy cockle salad on top and it really was the perfect full Daegu Korean set-meal spread!
5. The dessert corner and banchan you can take home
After finishing the meal, we headed to the dessert corner and found chilled apricot juice and crispy gangjeong (Korean rice puff snack) ready to go!
There was even a Starbucks bean coffee machine and ice cups, which made me think this place would be great for a lunch gathering too!
There's also a fridge in one corner of the restaurant selling delicious banchan, so you can buy any side dishes that suited your taste to take home!
From the comfortable facilities to the neatly prepared food and ample parking, Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch ticked every box for me!
