Hi, this is Ssongssong! Today I went out to Yangjae to see Hyeongjun after a while, and while we were deciding what to eat, the chilly weather lately had me craving something hot and soupy~

So I looked around for a good gamjatang (pork bone soup) and ppyeo-haejangguk (pork bone hangover soup) spot nearby, and found a place in Yangjae that looked clean and comfortable inside, and delicious too! Lots of tables with wide spacing, so it looked good for group dinners too. It was near Hyeongjun's workplace so we went straight there.

The broth really was clean, packed with meat, and the meat itself had a nice tender texture, so we ate really well. Even the basic side dishes, kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi), tasted like something you'd only get at a proper Korean restaurant hahahahaha. They even had hand-breaded pork cutlet so we enjoyed it even more! Let me introduce it right away.

Chomu Gamjatang

Where is Chomu Gamjatang? A standalone building in Poi-dong, Yangjae

Chomu Gamjatang (초무 감자탕) is located at 59 Nonhyeon-ro, 1st floor, Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea, in Poi-dong, Yangjae. It uses a whole standalone building, so it was easy to find.

it has a hanok (traditional Korean house) feel, and the soft lighting made the exterior really pretty haha

Is the hall at Chomu Gamjatang good for a group dinner?

The inside of Chomu Gamjatang had wide table spacing, so it looked totally fine for a group dinner. There are a lot of offices around Poi-dong in Yangjae, so it seemed especially well-suited as an after-work dinner spot.

The interior was quite pleasant and spacious, and the space between tables was wide, so it looked great for a group dinner. There are a lot of offices around Poi-dong in Yangjae too, so I'd definitely recommend it as a group dinner spot!

Just a heads-up that there's a wait during peak hours!

Chomu Gamjatang menu and prices

Chomu Gamjatang's signature dishes are gamjatang, ppyeojjim (steamed pork bones), and ppyeo-haejangguk. We ordered two bowls of ppyeo-haejangguk at 12,000 won each, Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet at 12,000 won, and a beer at 5,000 won.

This is Chomu Gamjatang's menu board. True to its reputation as a gamjatang / ppyeo-haejangguk spot in Poi-dong, Yangjae, the signature dishes gamjatang, ppyeojjim and ppyeo-haejangguk look really hearty........

They also had Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet! It seemed like a great place for parents to bring their kids too.

  • Beer ₩5,000
  • Ppyeo-haejangguk ₩12,000 x 2
  • Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet ₩12,000
Kimchi and kkakdugi served as basic side dishes

The basic side dishes were kimchi and kkakdugi. Honestly it looks like less because I already dug into the kkakdugi... but just look at that kimchi, it's clearly delicious just from the visual, haha.

Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet: thick and mild

The Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet at 12,000 won came out first. It stayed true to basics but had a thick texture with a clean, savory meat flavor.

The Jeju hand-breaded pork cutlet came out first. It was a classic cutlet, but with a thick texture and a clean, well-defined meat flavor — a genuinely delicious cutlet!

Cabbage salad and corn served with the cutlet

Cutlets need cabbage salad, of course. It's a flavor kids can enjoy and adults can enjoy too, so I thought it'd be great as an anju (drinking snack) as well. Since it was just the two of us, one piece each made for a clean split ^_^ There was corn too, which I love, so it was all great.

How were the pork bone soup broth and the meat portion?

Chomu Gamjatang's ppyeo-haejangguk at 12,000 won stood out for its clean broth with no gamey smell. It came with three big chunks of meat, and the meat was generously attached to the bone too.

Ppyeo-haejangguk topped with perilla leaves and green onion

Next, the main dish, ppyeo-haejangguk... wow... with perilla leaves and green onion on top, the visual alone is insane........

Meat poking out of the ppyeo-haejangguk pot

There must have been a lot of meat underneath because it was practically poking out haha

Since broth taste and tender meat are what matter most to me, I went straight for a sip of the broth. And it really was clean with no gamey smell at all. Adding ground perilla seeds on top gave it an extra nutty flavor that made it even better. Everyone's seasoning preference is different, but since it came out clean, I could season it exactly to my taste, which I liked even more. Sometimes the broth has a meaty smell, but at Chomu Gamjatang the broth was genuinely clean, so I could really enjoy it.

So of course I went straight for the beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beer really does go with ppyeo-haejangguk. Of course it does. I don't know why soju just doesn't tempt me lately but beer does so much haha. Is it just me? haha

A big chunk of meat with plenty of flesh in the ppyeo-haejangguk
Tender meat pulling apart easily in the ppyeo-haejangguk

The meat came in three big chunks, and there was plenty of flesh attached to the bone too haha. It wasn't just bones — there was a generous amount of meat too, so we could eat our fill. And the meat's texture wasn't dry at all — smooth and tender with no smell, which was the best part.

Overall, it was a genuinely clean-tasting ppyeo-haejangguk. Which is why I already want to come back and try the gamjatang next time hahahaha. They had ppyeojjim (steamed pork bones) too, and judging by the meat texture, it's probably really tender. Writing this is making me drool already...............

Chomu Gamjatang verdict, hours and address

I'd heard there was a good ppyeo-haejangguk/gamjatang spot around Poi-dong in Yangjae, so I went to check out

"Chomu Gamjatang." The genuinely clean broth and meat flavor made it obvious why this place is a local favorite. The generous meat portion, non-dry texture, and lack of any smell all added up to a really well-executed ppyeo-haejangguk.

It uses a whole standalone building, and the wide, comfortable table spacing made it look great for group dinners too! If it were in my neighborhood, I feel like I'd come for ppyeo-haejangguk all the time.
