Now that the weather's getting a bit cooler, don't you find yourself craving hot broth and noodles more often?
There was an expo I'd pre-registered for at Yangjae at Center, so I was looking for somewhere to grab breakfast beforehand, and that's how I found Seonbawi Memil Jangteo — I heard they'd just added buckwheat clam kalguksu (noodle soup) as a new menu item, so my friend and I went to try it together~
They open at 9am, but prep also starts at 9, so it takes about 15–20 minutes for the dish to come out — just a heads-up if you're planning to visit right at 9am!!!

It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yangjae Citizens' Forest Station! It's also close to Yangjae at Center, just a 7-minute walk away! If you're driving, there's parking for up to 4 cars in front of the store, though it might be full during lunchtime ㅠㅠ When we visited at 9am, there weren't any cars parked there yet!
Seating on both floors and free buckwheat tea at Seonbawi Memil Jangteo
Seonbawi Memil Jangteo operates across two floors, so it's plenty spacious for group dining! We used the 1st floor, and even the 1st floor alone is spacious enough that you probably wouldn't need to wait even during lunch hours!
I went up to check out the 2nd floor too, and it seemed to be geared more toward group customers, with a lot more of that kind of seating! There are 6-seat tables and some seats that are set up like semi-private rooms!
They're currently running a receipt review event and a survey event, so you can get a free drink for participating, and the buckwheat tea is also free and self-serve!

New buckwheat clam kalguksu: 13,000 won a person, two servings minimum
Buckwheat clam kalguksu is ₩13,000 per person. We ordered two servings of the newly launched buckwheat clam kalguksu! At ₩13,000 per serving, that's ₩26,000 total for two~ You need to order for at least 2 people!
The hot kalguksu broth is loaded with clams, and you can really taste the clean flavor of the 100% pure buckwheat noodles in this buckwheat kalguksu!
Just look at how generous the clams are!!! This isn't just clam kalguksu, this is mountain-pile clam kalguksu, right? Hahahaha
No matter how much you eat, the clams just don't seem to run out. And it's not just clams — they added pollack for a deep, savory richness, giving the broth a clean, refreshing flavor!
This was my first time trying kalguksu made with buckwheat, and I was curious how it'd be — the noodles have a chewier texture than regular kalguksu noodles, plus that distinctive clean buckwheat flavor, so it doesn't sit heavy on your stomach!
Adding dadaegi (spicy seasoning paste) for a hotter broth
It's good with kimchi too, but if you want to switch things up partway through, you can add dadaegi (Korean spicy chili paste condiment) to your Seonbawi kalguksu!
Personally, I thought it tasted even better with the dadaegi added! It doesn't ruin the broth's flavor — the rich, refreshing taste stays the same, just with a little extra spicy kick added, which was really nice~
First I had a spoonful of just the broth, then ate the noodles along with it, and in between kept fishing out the clams here and there hahaha
Dumplings sold out at 9am, makguksu next visit
The buckwheat noodles were so good that next time I'd want to try something where the buckwheat noodles are the star, like perilla oil makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles). We'd originally planned to order dumplings too, but apparently they're so popular they'd sold out and hadn't been restocked yet ㅠ Unfortunately we didn't get to try the dumplings ㅠㅠ
Besides the new buckwheat clam kalguksu, they also have perilla oil makguksu, pollack sashimi makguksu, dongchimi (radish water kimchi) makguksu, and buckwheat soba, so you can pick based on your taste~ Since this place focuses on buckwheat, I'd especially recommend the perilla oil makguksu or the dongchimi makguksu!
