Songpa bakery café bread timetable and mild salt bread at Grid Cafe
In short
Grid Cafe is a bakery café on Macheon-ro in Ogeum-dong, Songpa, Seoul, that focuses on four kinds of bread: ciabatta, tarts, scones and salt bread. On an early weekend-morning visit the writer had an iced latte, an iced americano, the plain salt bread, an egg tart and an olive ciabatta, and mapped out when each Grid Cafe bread comes out of the oven, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Verdict: Grid Cafe's plain salt bread is light and not too salty, so even people who dislike salty bread can enjoy it.

Is there any small joy more reliable than waking up on a weekend morning to a fragrant cup of coffee and warm, fresh-baked, nutty bread? Today I went early on a weekend to Grid Cafe (그리드카페) in Ogeum-dong, Songpa-gu, a bakery already famous among the neighborhood locals, and a dessert spot with serious skills that has even been on TV. I'll walk you through the atmosphere, parking tips and, of course, when the bread comes out!
Where is Grid Cafe, and can you park there?
Grid Cafe is at 146 Macheon-ro, 1st floor, Songpa-gu, Seoul, about a 13-minute walk from Ogeum Station (Line 3) or about 12 minutes from Gaerong Station (Line 5). There's no parking on weekdays, only on weekends and public holidays.

It's a cozy café tucked into the Ogeum-dong neighborhood, but it's also pretty easy to reach by public transport.
- From Ogeum Station (Line 3): Take Exit 2 and head down to the right from the Ogeum Park intersection. It takes about 13 minutes on foot.
- From Gaerong Station (Line 5): Take Exit 1 and walk from the Ogeum-dong intersection toward Bangi Station until you see the Seongnaecheon (Bridge 6) bridge. Cross it and go a little further, and Grid Cafe is on your left. It takes about 12 minutes on foot.
Sadly there's no parking on weekdays, but on weekends and holidays you can park, so if you're driving over for a weekend brunch, I'd aim for the weekend!
An Ogeum-dong bakery featured on Korean TV's "Master of Business" and "Self-Made Rich"
Grid Cafe received a solution from the host of the show "Jangsaui Sin" (Master of Business) and appeared on the show "Seomin Gapbu" (Self-Made Rich). Those who know, know. It's got quite a story.

They say that after renewing the place based on that solution, the quality of the coffee and the expertise of the bakery went up a lot.
What time does the bread come out at Grid Cafe?
The bread comes out in time slots from 9 AM to 12 PM. The plain salt bread and egg tarts come out at 9 AM, the flavored salt breads at 10:30 AM, and the shokupan (milk loaf) at 12 PM.

Grid Cafe focuses on just four categories of bakery items: ciabatta, tarts, scones and salt bread. And every single one of them is delicious, no exceptions.

9 AM bread lineup

They knead the dough by hand and bake it fresh every morning, so I'm sharing the bread schedule here. Time your visit to the bread!
What is the atmosphere like inside Grid Cafe?
From the outside Grid Cafe looks small, but go deeper inside and there's more seating than you'd expect, all cozily decorated. Even early on a weekend morning it was busy with both dine-in and takeout customers.

It looked small from the outside, but when you open the door and walk further in, there's more seating than you'd think, and it's nicely and cozily decorated.

I came early on a weekend morning, and the place was already fairly full of locals leisurely enjoying coffee and salt bread. What surprised me most was that takeout customers kept streaming in just as much as the dine-in ones! Everyone came in and scooped up armfuls of salt bread, egg tarts and ciabatta to go, and I thought, "Okay, this really is an Ogeum-dong favorite."
Our weekend-morning order: two coffees and three breads
This day I set up a generous brunch table at Grid Cafe with an iced latte, an iced americano, the plain salt bread, an egg tart and an olive ciabatta. You can choose your coffee beans to taste from Fritz Coffee's "Old Dog", "Jaldoeeogasina" and decaf, so the coffee was top-notch too.

☕ Café latte and iced americano
I picked a wonderfully nutty iced latte and a refreshing americano, and loved the solid body and clean finish of the beans. The balance with bread is fantastic.

🥐 Plain salt bread: is it okay if you dislike salty bread?
Grid Cafe's plain salt bread isn't artificially salty. It's clean, mild and pleasantly salty, so even people who dislike salty bread can enjoy it. It's chewy outside and moist with butter flavor inside.
Ahh... everyone, if you come to Grid Cafe, you absolutely have to stock up on salt bread, one of each kind. It's really good! Honestly, I usually don't go looking for salt bread because I don't like that overly intense saltiness. But the salt bread here isn't artificially salty, it's chewy outside and moist with butter flavor inside. Overall it's clean, mild and gently salty. Even people like me who don't like salty bread will eat it in amazement. It's a salt bread gem.

🍮 Egg tart
Grid Cafe's egg tart is a best seller that rivals the salt bread. The flaky, crisp pastry is filled with soft, sweet egg custard cream that melts like pudding the moment it hits your mouth. It pairs absolutely beautifully with an americano.

🥖 Olive ciabatta
The olive ciabatta is Grid Cafe's hidden weapon and the No. 3 item. It's crackly outside and fluffy and moist inside, studded with salty olives. It's the peak of plain, nutty goodness that gets more savory the more you chew, and it was just right as a breakfast substitute.
Verdict: what to eat at Grid Cafe in Ogeum-dong
At Grid Cafe there's no need for rankings. I'd recommend trying the tarts, scones, salt bread and ciabatta at least once each. Even early on a weekend morning, takeout customers kept coming in a never-ending stream, and one bite made me understand exactly why.

I've firmly resolved to drop by every weekend morning like a regular at a rice cake shop, and to take home an assortment of breads for a home café too.

If you're looking for a great bakery in Ogeum-dong, Songpa, or near Gaerong Station, don't miss Grid Cafe!
