Danppang Bakery (단빵제빵소) is a garlic bread bakery inside Gugyeong Market at 36 Jeondo 4-gil, Danyang-eup, Danyang-gun, Chungbuk. It is open daily 10:30–21:00 with last order at 19:30, and it closes early once ingredients run out.

Danyang Gugyeong Market food pick, part 2! My friends and I were looking for something to snack on at our stay when we found Danppang Bakery. The line is always so long that I'd never managed to buy anything, but this time I really wanted to try it, so I got in line right away~

If one spot in Gugyeong Market has an especially long line, it's Danppang Bakery! The market itself is packed, but the black garlic nurungji dakgangjeong stall and Danppang Bakery are right across from each other, so that's where the crowds gather~

Why is Danppang Bakery's garlic bread so famous?

Danppang Bakery is known as the original Danyang garlic bread spot in Gugyeong Market. It's famous for its black garlic cream cheese garlic bread, said to be the first in Korea to grind black garlic into cream cheese, and it has reportedly been featured on several TV shows for the garlic bread it worked hard to develop.

Among Danyang Gugyeong Market's food spots, Danppang Bakery is especially famous as a gift. Walk around the market or Sono Belle and you'll see so many people carrying a Danppang box in one hand! That must mean it's a hugely popular spot, right~ I was the only one who hadn't tried it, so I'd always been curious, ugh.

Danppang Bakery sells garlic bread made with Danyang garlic, a local specialty. Danyang garlic is known for being sweeter and deeper in flavor than ordinary garlic, and the origin labeling was thorough, so I felt even more confident buying it.

Is the line at Danppang Bakery a long wait?

The line at Danppang Bakery is long, but the staff pack orders quickly, so ordering and pickup finished faster than I expected. There's also a tasting corner at the front, so you can try before you choose.

Maybe because there were so many people, bread kept coming out of the oven and they were making cream bread nonstop, haha. The smell of fresh bread kept wafting over, so I got even hungrier while waiting, ugh.

To try a bit of everything, I picked four flavors! Cream, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato and baguette, a perfect lineup~ The line is long, but the staff member was a real pro and packed everything fast, so ordering and pickup go quicker than you'd think~

How many garlic bread sets are enough for five people?

For five friends on a 2-night trip, two Danppang Bakery 4-flavor sets was just right. Each bread is quite big, so sharing was never short.

I thought one set wouldn't be enough, so I bought two, and it turned out to be perfect.

When I opened the package, the look of it was gorgeous, ugh! Each bread is quite big, so even five of us sharing had plenty.

How did the 4 garlic bread flavors at Danppang Bakery differ?

Baguette garlic bread and cream cheese garlic bread

Danppang Bakery's baguette garlic bread is a crispy, chewy classic style, and personally my favorite of the four. The cream cheese garlic bread blends tangy cream cheese with garlic aroma and never got tiresome.

First, the baguette and cream cheese garlic breads! The baguette is the most basic garlic bread style, with a nice crispy yet chewy texture, and you can really taste the Danyang garlic. It's plain and clean, so it was my personal favorite~ The cream cheese garlic bread balanced tangy cream cheese with garlic aroma, so it never got old and I kept reaching for more.

Sweet potato garlic bread and black garlic cream cheese garlic bread

Danppang Bakery's sweet potato garlic bread pairs sweet sweet potato mousse with pungent garlic, while the black garlic cream cheese one had the richest yet subtlest garlic flavor. Black garlic may sound startling, but it tastes like a garlic custard cream, so anyone can enjoy it.

The sweet potato garlic bread's combo of sweet sweet potato mousse and pungent garlic was appealing. If you usually like sweet potato mousse, you'll be satisfied! Lastly, the black garlic cream cheese garlic bread let me taste Danyang garlic most intensely. Instead of the garlic hitting you hard, it spread softly and gently, so it was easy to eat~ Some people may be surprised by black garlic cream cheese, but it felt like a mild garlic custard cream, so everyone can eat it~

Does Danppang Bakery garlic bread work as a beer snack and morning brunch?

We kept both sets of Danppang Bakery garlic bread at our stay and ate them as beer snacks for 2 nights, and they paired better than expected. The next morning, with coffee, they worked as a brunch too.

I brought two sets back and ate them as drinking snacks for 2 nights~ They go really well with beer, more than I expected... haha.

And the next morning we shared it simply with coffee, and it felt like a decent brunch too. As a drinking snack, a treat or breakfast, Danppang Bakery in Danyang Gugyeong Market suited it all! If you visit Danyang, stop by at least once~
