Samsan, Ulsan bakery café with Korean melon soft serve: Emily Bakery
In short
Emily Bakery is a financier-focused bakery café on the 2nd floor of a building on Wangsaeng-ro in Nam-gu, Ulsan, in the Samsan and Dal-dong area near Nam-gu Office. On a weekday afternoon visit with a friend the writer hadn't seen in 2 years, the order at Emily Bakery was a salted caramel financier, an Earl Grey canelé, the seasonal Korean melon (chamoe) soft serve and a decaf iced Americano. With a wide range of flavorful financiers, Emily Bakery is worth recommending even as an alternative to a celebration cake.

What is Emily Bakery in Samsan, Ulsan like?
Emily Bakery is a newly opened bakery café famous for its financiers, on the 2nd floor of the building that houses the café Emily, somewhere between Samsan and Dal-dong in Nam-gu, Ulsan. My friend Mallangi had come back from a working holiday in Canada, and we hadn't seen each other in about 2 years, so we caught up here.

It opened while I was away in Jeju, and I'd been dying to go. I sent Mallangi the café link, and she said she absolutely had to try the seasonal menu, so it was an instant OK, let's go!! And off we went 😇

The address is 144 Wangsaeng-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan, on the 2nd floor of Emily. It's open 9:00 – 19:00.

Where to park near Emily Bakery
There's no parking lot in the building and street parking in the alley is tough, so I recommend parking at Nam-gu Office! (No parking support.)

Waiting and takeout at Emily Bakery
- There's a waiting area on the shop's stairs (very hot)
- Takeout available
What are the interior and seating like at Emily Bakery?
Inside there's one 4-person table, about seven 2-person tables and a bar table, so it's not exactly big. On the day I went (a Monday around 2 p.m.) there weren't many customers, so it was nice and quiet.

Right when you walk in, there's a bar table bathed in warm sunlight! The outdoor tables at Emily on the 1st floor get amazing light too, and the 2nd floor gets such pretty sunshine as well?!
Also, there's bottled water on the shelf next to the counter! It was so hot that I gulped down water as soon as I got there... stay safe from the heat, everyone!!!

Emily Bakery drinks and seasonal soft serve
Emily Bakery is rumored to be the financier place of all financier places, right? To go with those financiers, they had coffee, tea and ade (fruit sodas)!

And then there was the seasonal soft serve Mallangi was dying to try: Korean melon (chamoe) soft serve!!! She said that was all she needed, so it was a must-order.

Emily Bakery's savory bread showcase
The showcase you see as soon as you enter had baguette sandwiches, sourdough, baguettes and triple chocolate baguettes. Doesn't the sourdough look overwhelming? Total Jean Valjean bread vibes.
I heard the chocolate baguette is good here, but Mallangi and I had had a huge shabu-shabu lunch, so there was no way we could eat meal bread like this.

What financier flavors does Emily Bakery have?
The financiers come in sooo many kinds: salted chocolate, salted caramel, fig cream cheese, plain, basil cream cheese, mugwort injeolmi (rice cake with soybean powder), pistachio and more. Instead of meal bread, we turned to the baked goods in the showcase next to it, where there were crisp rusks packed in by the handful and the financiers, the star item of this Dal-dong favorite haha.

I doubt there's anywhere else near Dal-dong or Samsan selling this many financiers.

Canelés and granola at Emily Bakery too
And that's not all. They also sold Earl Grey canelés, plain canelés and cute little candles.

The baked goods don't stop there! They even sell homemade honey granola and coconut honey granola. Recommended if you eat Greek yogurt at home~

A financier cake for birthdays
Have you heard of financier cake, everyone? It's a cake made by stacking financiers in layers, and nothing gets thrown away and you can just freeze any leftovers, which I love! Emily Bakery is a financier hotspot, so if you're planning a birthday party, give a financier cake a try. They have a variety of packaging containers too >,<
What we ordered at Emily Bakery
- Decaf iced Americano
- Korean melon soft serve
- Salted caramel financier
- Earl Grey canelé

This is what Mallangi and I ordered. I was definitely full, but the magic of seeing desserts makes you order them!

How were the salted caramel financier and Earl Grey canelé?
The salted caramel financier is crisp on the outside, and it's chewy thanks to the caramel coating. Salted caramel is my favorite financier of all, and my number one pick is here at Emily Bakery too!
The Earl Grey canelé is, needless to say, crunchy outside and moist inside, and a light white chocolate coating made it even sweeter. I really, truly recommend the salted caramel financier..

Decaf iced Americano
Mallangi can't really handle caffeine, so we ordered the coffee decaf and shared it. After panting in the blazing sun, coming in and drinking that Americano felt almost like the water of life..

How was the seasonal Korean melon soft serve?
The Korean melon was cut into tiny pieces and sprinkled on top like a topping! It's the one Mallangi absolutely, positively wanted, and I was surprised first that it was melon-flavored ice cream, and then surprised again by how sweet the melon was!

On top there was something like lemon zest, so it stayed fresh and zesty the whole way through >,< Seasonal fruit really is at its sweetest.
Verdict: a financier café near Nam-gu Office in Ulsan
Today Mallangi and I enjoyed financiers and seasonal ice cream at Emily Bakery in Samsan, Ulsan! Since the bakery spun off from the original Emily, the taste is something you can trust. Well done, Emily~.~
The financiers were so good today.. next time there's an important anniversary, I plan to take Emily Bakery financiers to go, stick in candles and have a party!! If you're looking for a café near Nam-gu Office, I recommend Emily Bakery.
