Hwajeong sushi restaurant lunch for two with bonus tempura: Min Cook

I visited Min Cook Dasima (민쿡다시마), a well-known spot near Hwajeong Station! 😊 It opened in 2001 and is said to be Goyang's first sushi restaurant, and it was even named a Centenary Store (a government award for long-running businesses), so I was curious. 😁 My husband happened to have the day off, so we went together. I loved everything from the atmosphere to the food, so let me introduce it to anyone looking for a lunch spot near Hwajeong Station. 😄❤️

What kind of sushi restaurant is Min Cook Dasima?

Min Cook Dasima is a sushi restaurant that has operated near Hwajeong Station since 2001, and it was named a Centenary Store in 2024. What caught my eye as I walked in was a display of hangiri, the wooden tubs used for mixing sushi rice, from different eras.

You can really feel the history of a sushi chef who has been making sushi for a long time 👍❤️

Atmosphere and seating at Min Cook Dasima

Each table has a warm, mood-setting lamp, so the place felt cozy and clean. It has a tidy, Japanese home-style restaurant vibe that I personally loved ❤️

The restaurant is quite spacious with lots of tables, so it's good for two people, and it also looked fine for family meals, get-togethers or company dinners 👍

There were also cute little decorations all around with a very Japanese-restaurant feel 🐱 I love browsing little props like that, and this was exactly my taste 🥰 We went at lunchtime, and plenty of office workers from nearby were eating there. I could see why so many people look for it as a lunch spot near Hwajeong Station. 😄❤️

What did we order for two at lunch?

At Min Cook Dasima we ordered the lunch special sushi set (Special) and the special assorted sushi.

After we ordered, they set out our cutlery first and brought us porridge, haha

Even the cutlery came in a little cover, which made me feel well looked after, haha

The porridge had a nutty crunch (perilla seeds, maybe?), was savory and smooth, and vanished in a flash ^^ After a short wait, a staff member brought the set and the assorted sushi, and I was surprised by the full table! My husband looked at the food and asked, "Wow, does sushi come with this too?" haha

How was the ₩25,000 lunch special sushi set (Special)?

I liked that the lunch special set lets you enjoy sushi together with several side dishes. For ₩25,000 you get not only sushi but a variety of other Japanese dishes, so it felt really well packed 👍

I tried the sushi first, since that's what I was most looking forward to.

I couldn't help exclaiming with every bite 😊 Sushi is all about the balance of rice and fish, and the seasoning of the rice went well with the tender fish, so it was light yet rich in flavor 👍❤️ Dipped lightly in soy sauce, it melted in my mouth 💚

The sashimi in the set was delicious too! Haha, it didn't have that fishy taste that raw fish can have, so I enjoyed it a lot. My husband kept praising it too, saying they must use good ingredients.

For the two of us, who love sushi, it was a very satisfying meal.

Shrimp tempura and the review event: 3 extra pieces

The shrimp tempura that came with the set was good too. The crunch when I bit into it sounded so good, haha. Crisp outside and moist inside, it went nicely alternating with the sushi.

At Min Cook Dasima, you can get 3 extra shrimp tempura if you join the review event 👍 I couldn't just pass that up, right? 😂 So I joined the review event right away and got 3 more pieces. It made the meal even more generous, haha.

What is the ₩21,000 special assorted sushi (12 pieces)?

The special assorted sushi comes with 12 pieces, so you can taste a good variety. It was fun trying one piece each of several top-grade premium sushi, and I think anyone who loves sushi would be really happy with it 😄

Ordered together with the lunch special set, the assorted sushi on top of the set's many dishes made the table even fuller. My husband kept saying how good the sushi was, haha. If two of you want to share a variety of dishes, ordering this way seems like a good idea.
