Kid-friendly pizza at Cheonan Shinsegae: Supreme & cheese, Clap Pizza

Clap Pizza Cheonan-Asan Shinsegae is a pizza restaurant on the 4th floor of Building B at Shinsegae Department Store in Cheonan, on the same floor as the CGV cinema. The writer returned on a weekend morning with her husband and child, ordered a Regular Supreme pizza and a Regular cheese pizza, and saved ₩10,000 in total with the Regular single-pizza discount. Because the dough isn't thick, Clap Pizza is an easy pizza stop in Cheonan on a movie-and-bookstore outing with kids.

Pork rib restaurant in Baebang, Asan: gas and charcoal grill, Hwahwa

Hwahwa Dwaeji Wanggalbi Asanbaebang branch is a newly opened pork rib restaurant in Baebang-eup, Asan, Chungnam. A family of three visited Hwahwa Dwaeji Wanggalbi around 5 pm on a weekday, ordered 3 servings of giant pork ribs (wanggalbi) and grilled them with shrimp on a gas and charcoal grill; the self-serve bar of ssam (lettuce wrap) greens and table-order grill changes were especially convenient. Verdict: Hwahwa Dwaeji Wanggalbi is a Baebang barbecue spot where families can enjoy pork ribs with a child without worrying about smoke or flare-ups.

Cheonan noodle house: off-peak lunch with suyuk and king mandu, Geuni

Geuni Sikdang Pyeongyang Naengmyeon (그니식당) is a Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. After a first visit they couldn't forget, the writer and her husband returned for lunch on a hot day, arrived around 12:30 to skip the noon peak, and shared 1 Pyeongyang naengmyeon, 1 tasting suyuk (sliced boiled meat) and 2 king mandu (large dumplings). With its clean meat broth, generous suyuk and big king mandu, Geuni Sikdang is a Dujeong-dong lunch spot worth recommending even to Pyeongyang naengmyeon beginners.

Cheonan yukgaejang spot, 10 AM brunch: extra meat & tripe, Yukdaejang

Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant on Handeul 2-ro in Baekseok-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. At the chilly end of autumn, the writer went back with her husband, without their child, right at the 10 AM opening and had traditional yukgaejang with extra meat and tripe-loaded fresh-noodle yukkalmyeon (spicy beef soup with noodles) for brunch. Generous meat, tripe and glass noodles made both bowls at Yukdaejang a satisfying revisit.

Cheonan army stew revisit, kid eats a whole ramyeon pack: Cheongwon

Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch is a budae-jjigae (army stew) restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, where rice and ramyeon noodles are unlimited at the self-serve bar. On a late weekend lunch revisit with a child who wanted ramyeon, the family ordered the Songtan budae-jjigae with minced 1++ grade hanwoo (Korean beef) and a pork cutlet, and the child skipped the cutlet to finish a whole pack of ramyeon noodles alone. Verdict: Cheongwon Restaurant is the Dujeong-dong local favorite this family always heads to whenever budae-jjigae comes to mind.

First boneless monkfish stew in Asan with wasabi soy: Sinseong

Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch (신성아구찜 아산점) is a monkfish and seafood stew restaurant in Mojong-dong, Asan, near Asan Terminal. Arriving before opening with a younger sibling, the writer ordered a small boneless monkfish stew at regular spice and, after only ever eating bone-in agujjim (spicy braised monkfish), loved how easy the boneless version was and the fried rice to finish. Sinseong Agujjim's regular-spice boneless stew is an easy pick even for people who eat less spicy food, and the writer plans to return and go one level hotter.

Cheonan galbi restaurant with cheese bomb fried rice: Yukmian

Yukmian Cheonan Buldang is a galbi (marinated rib) restaurant on Buldang 22-daero in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, whose black interior and front-opening windows give it the feel of an outdoor pub patio. A married couple ordered one portion each of pork galbi and bone-in galbi à la carte, plus cheese bomb fried rice, a ₩3,000 extra makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), free garnish refills and a chestnut tiramisu from the review event. The atmosphere, the meat and the side dishes all delivered, making Yukmian Cheonan Buldang a strong pick for a wedding-invitation dinner in Buldang-dong.

Cheonan katsu lunch with my kid: sauce-on-the-side king cutlet, Jinsim

Jinsim Wang Donkatsu Cheonan Buldang (진심왕돈까스 천안불당점) is a pork cutlet restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan. On a return visit for a weekend lunch alone with her child, the writer ordered the king cutlet with the sauce-on-the-side option and a kimchi nabe cutlet (pork cutlet in a kimchi hot pot), helped herself to soup and lettuce wraps at the self-bar, and packed leftovers at the self-packing counter. Verdict: Jinsim Wang Donkatsu is an easy place for a parent and child to eat out, and one she plans to visit often.

Pungse, Cheonan Christmas village café for a sibling brunch: Pino Cafe

Pino Cafe Cheonan is a garden brunch café on Hyuyangnim-gil in Pungse-myeon, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan. Pungse brunch café in Cheonan for my husband's day off: Siyudang

Siyudang is a three-floor bakery and brunch café on Hyuyangnim-gil in Pungse-myeon, Dong-gu, Cheonan. On her husband's morning off, the writer ordered two iced Americanos, a prosciutto open sandwich, chicken steak rosé pasta and a chocolate bread at Siyudang, sat on the quieter second floor and had the food brought over by cart. Even on a first visit, Siyudang's brunch was good enough that she decided to come back right away.

Cheonan Chinese restaurant: long-cut sweet-sour pork for kids, Bultina

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Sinbang Branch (불티나꼬막짬뽕 신방점) is a Chinese restaurant specializing in cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), on the 1st floor of the Ilsong Building on Seobu-daero in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan. On a weekday evening with an elementary-school child, the writer shared a level 1 cockle jjamppong, a jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and a medium sweet-and-sour pork, and parking was easy thanks to large surface and underground lots. With its nutty cockle jjamppong broth and crisp, long-cut sweet-and-sour pork, Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Sinbang Branch makes a satisfying family dinner out with kids.

Cream latte café in Baebang, Asan with a lawn yard: Small Town Coffee

Small Town Coffee is an atmospheric café on Galmae-gil in Baebang, Asan, Chungnam, with a large parking lot and a lawn yard. After lunch, the writer, who normally never drinks lattes, ordered an iced cream latte, an iced Americano and a Basque cheesecake, and named the Small Town Coffee cream latte the best latte of their life. Verdict: if you want to try a cream latte in Baebang, Asan, Small Town Coffee is highly recommended.
