Summer kongguksu set at Daejeon Korean restaurant Baengnyeon Boribap
In short
Baengnyeon Boribap is a barley rice set-meal restaurant on Sintanjin-ro in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, where 14,500 won per person buys a main dish plus a self-serve bar of 12 banchan (side dishes) with unlimited barley rice and white rice. On a weekday visit at 5:30pm, the aged kimchi cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) set with stir-fried pork and the seoritae kongguksu (black soybean noodle soup) set with grilled mackerel came with misugaru (roasted grain drink) and old-fashioned rice crackers for dessert. With high chairs and kids' tableware on hand, Baengnyeon Boribap works well for a Daejeon family meal with parents and small children.

These days it costs at least 20,000–30,000 won just to eat out, so finding a Daejeon Korean restaurant with unlimited refills — from side dishes to barley rice — felt like a real find.
You can help yourself to as many of the 12 banchan (side dishes) as you like, and every single one tasted like homemade cooking. Total satisfaction!

At only 14,500 won per person, I want to recommend Baengnyeon Boribap in Sintanjin for family gatherings with your parents or whenever you need a hearty lunch :)
Where is Baengnyeon Boribap, and when can you skip the wait?

For anyone driving, the biggest question is parking — and there's a dedicated lot in front with about 30 spaces, making it easy for families arriving in multiple cars.
This place is already famous enough in Sintanjin that there's a wait even on weekday lunches. I went at an off-peak time, around 5:30pm on a weekday, and got seated right away, but tables started filling up fast from around 6pm. If you want to skip the wait, try visiting just outside peak hours!
Baengnyeon Boribap menu and the 12-banchan self-serve bar
The Baengnyeon Boribap set meal costs 14,500 won per person, including a main dish, barley rice, and the 12-banchan self-serve bar. The menu boards are shown in the photos below.

Swipe through to see the full menu — the spread is solid and the price is genuinely kind, right? (I'm touched)

And it's not just the main dish for this price — the heart of Baengnyeon Boribap is the unlimited 12-banchan self-serve bar!
- Braised pork in soy sauce (jangjorim)
- Japchae (glass noodles)
- Perilla leaf shoots
- Sautéed zucchini
- Seasoned bean sprouts
- Cold soup (naengguk)
- Sautéed mushrooms
- Leafy greens for wraps
- Acorn jelly (dotorimuk)
- Salad
- Assorted kimchi
(And that's not even all of it) The variety is really something. You bring whatever you want on the two big plates set on the table, and the moment I brought my first load back, I understood what people mean by a table groaning under the weight of food, haha.

It's not just variety — none of the dishes were over-seasoned, and each one had that homemade, mom-cooked touch I loved.

And on top of that, both barley rice and white rice are unlimited! Big eaters could really get their money's worth here, haha. Just note there's a 5,000 won leftover-food fee if you don't finish, so take only what you'll eat :)
Can you bring a baby and parents? Inside Baengnyeon Boribap
The interior of Baengnyeon Boribap is clean and the seating fairly spacious, so I'd recommend it as a spot for Daejeon family gatherings. There's a high chair and kids' tableware — plate, spoon, and fork — ready to go.

The menu itself covers everything from barley rice, cheonggukjang, and grilled fish that older generations enjoy, to Korean pork loin cutlet and fried king prawns for kids — so it's easy for three generations to find something they each like.

With a high chair and kids' plate, spoon, and fork all prepared, it's a comfortable place to bring a baby along. Solo dining works too, so it's also great for a nearby office worker's lunch!
And don't rush out right after your meal — there's misugaru, coffee, and old-fashioned rice crackers waiting as dessert, haha.

Walking out with a paper cup of misugaru and rice crackers after a filling meal made me weirdly happy... these little touches tend to stick in your memory.
Honest review: seoritae kongguksu and cheonggukjang sets at Baengnyeon Boribap
We ordered two sets: aged kimchi cheonggukjang + barley rice + pork, 14,500 won, and black soybean noodles + barley rice + mackerel, 14,500 won.

The black soybean noodle broth is really thick and nutty. It's not the thin, bland kind — the distinctive roasted flavor of black soybeans comes through strongly, making it perfect for a summer specialty.
Apparently the soybean broth is freshly ground every morning!!! No wonder it tastes this good.
I mixed the barley rice with whichever banchan I liked from the self-serve bar. Every table has gochujang (chili paste) and sesame oil, and I found it delicious even with just sesame oil, no gochujang.

Since the side dishes themselves are already seasoned, mixing it plainly still tasted amazing.

The mackerel was grilled golden and nutty on the outside, moist inside! A savory bite of fish on top of barley rice is a total rice thief.

And then the aged kimchi cheonggukjang I'd been looking forward to. The savory funk of cheonggukjang combined with the tangy depth of well-fermented aged kimchi makes for a really rich broth. A spoonful of that with barley rice tastes exactly like home cooking, TT
The stir-fried pork had a gentle smoky char with sweet-spicy sauce clinging to every bite. It's great on its own, but piling it onto a lettuce wrap with garlic and ssamjang (dipping sauce) made for a truly satisfying mouthful, haha.
14,500 won for a main dish, barley rice, and unlimited refills on 12 banchan — with prices these days, that's genuinely great value! And the staff were so kind that I felt good the entire meal. I'd definitely go back — I'm even planning to bring my relatives here when they visit Daejeon for Chuseok, haha.
Oh! There's also an event where you get a free serving of fried dumplings or barley/brown rice crackers if you leave a Naver receipt review, so give that a try!
If you're looking for a Daejeon Korean restaurant to bring your parents to, or a Sintanjin family gathering spot where the whole family — kids included — can eat comfortably, I highly recommend Baengnyeon Boribap :)
