Seongsu Western restaurant, window seat & purple ade: Seongsu Darak

In short

Seongsu Darak (성수다락) is a Western restaurant on Ttukseom-ro 9-gil in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, serving omurice, pasta, steak, risotto and katsu sando. The writer queued before opening with a close friend, took a 2nd-floor seat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, and ordered Darak omurice, brisket perilla-seed pasta, a purple Seongsu ade and a Darak ade served in a pineapple cup. Thanks to careful plating and a cozy mood, the meal at Seongsu Darak felt worth more than its price.

Today's place is a Seongsu date spot famous for its omurice (omelet rice)!! Seongsu Darak 😊 It's a pretty little restaurant with a charming feel, so it's great with friends, and also really good for a meal with a partner or family!

What's on the menu at Seongsu Darak?

Seongsu Darak is a Western restaurant in Seongsu with a wide range of dishes: omurice, pasta, steak, risotto, katsu sando (breaded cutlet sandwich) and more. The menu describes the omurice as European-style fried rice, so it's one of Seongsu Darak's popular dishes that you can't not try.

My close friend (an older "unnie") and I came to try the omurice too. There's a good range of ades, which look great alongside the Western dishes. For alcohol, they have highballs, Jeju Ale, Hoegaarden and Stella beer.

What are the interior and seating like at Seongsu Darak?

Inside Seongsu Darak just after opening

There was already a line before opening, and we got in on the opening rush. I thought, "This must be a real Seongsu hotspot!" and my expectations went up 😊 Instead of buzzers, every table has a little bell, so when you want to order or call someone you just shake it and it goes ding-ding. That was a fun, unusual touch haha

2nd-floor window seat for two

The restaurant has a 2nd and 3rd floor, and we ate on the 2nd. At the back there were cozy 2-person seats, and I especially loved the floor-to-ceiling window.

I loved the cozy mood from the classy-looking marble-style table, wood-tone chairs and soft lighting.

The floor tiles were unusual and classy-looking too, and with the stairs up to the 3rd floor next to us, it felt like being in a two-story house 🤩

What we ordered at Seongsu Darak

Small plate setting and the tissue with the "dalgeurak" message at Seongsu Darak

We ordered Darak omurice, brisket perilla pasta, Seongsu ade and Darak ade. They even set a small plate for each person. The tissue had a line saying "Thank you for waiting. We're happily 'dalgeurak-ing' (clattering away) for you," which felt warm and cute 🤩

How do the Seongsu ade and Darak ade taste?

The first things to arrive were the two ades. The Seongsu ade is a lemonade in a soft purple color, tangy and sweet and easy to drink. The Darak ade came in a pineapple cup, which caught every eye, and tastes tangy like pineapple. It reminded me of pineapple Fanta 🍍

After the ades, the food arrived, and first up was the Darak omurice!! It's Japanese-style omurice with nicely stir-fried rice and a sweet sauce, and I enjoyed it a lot. Before we ate, the staff member set it down and cut the omurice open down the middle with a knife 😁

Once it's cut, the soft, fluffy egg comes spilling out and spreads over the whole plate 😋

The pasta arrived after the egg on the omurice had been cut in half, so I took a photo of them together 🤩

Seongsu Darak's brisket perilla pasta was heaped with perilla powder, and a nutty aroma wafted up 😋 Mixed well with the egg yolk, it's a fantastic combination!! 😋

Who would I recommend Seongsu Darak to?

Eating tasty Western dishes at a window seat with a huge glass wall made the mood even better and the meal really enjoyable 💛 The dishes come out carefully plated, so I felt they tasted worth more than their price! I recommend Seongsu Darak to anyone in Seongsu who wants a delicious meal in a nice setting with family, friends or a partner 😊👍
