Changwon pork soup restaurant with suyuk: Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap

In short

Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap is a Korean restaurant near Bukmyeon Hot Springs in Changwon, Gyeongnam. After the hot springs, I ordered suyuk baekban and my companion had sundae gukbap; the tender boiled pork with gang doenjang stood out, while the spacious parking lot and partitioned seating made the visit comfortable.

Is it conveniently located for a meal after Bukmyeon Hot Springs?

After visiting Bukmyeon Hot Springs, I stopped by Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap (명인돼지국밥) for dinner on the way home. It is on the old road leading from the Bukmyeon Hot Springs complex toward Changwon and Masan, and I had noticed it while passing by.

I had been curious because the restaurant looked large and always seemed busy when I passed it. The address is 897 Cheonju-ro, Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, Changwon, and the hours listed in the original post are 09:10–20:50.

What are the parking and solo-dining spaces like?

The spacious parking lot was the first thing I noticed.

The interior was also spacious, and the seats had partitions, making it comfortable to eat. I came with a companion this time, but I thought it would also be fine to stop by alone for a bowl of gukbap (rice soup).

What did we order, and how are the side dishes served?

I ordered suyuk baekban (a set meal of boiled pork and rice soup), while my companion ordered sundae gukbap (rice soup with Korean blood sausage). A Naver review event was also running at the time of our visit.

There was a self-service bar where we could freely take kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and more. The basic side dishes were prepared as soon as we ordered.

The basic side dishes included kkakdugi, kimchi, and seasoned chives.

The kimchi was also sprinkled with almonds. Both the kimchi and kkakdugi suited my taste, so they went well with the gukbap.

What comes with suyuk baekban, and how did it taste?

Suyuk baekban lets you eat sliced boiled pork and gukbap together. It is also something I often order at gukbap restaurants.

The boiled pork had a balance of lean meat and fat, so it was not dry. It was tender with a pleasantly chewy texture, and I did not notice any pork odor when I ate it.

Gang doenjang (thick soybean paste stew) came with the boiled pork. Placing the pork on lettuce and adding gang doenjang gave it a savory, salty flavor. It was one of the combinations I remembered most from that meal.

The broth was milky and rich without being overly strong, and it had plenty of ingredients. I thought it would be nice to return with my child for a meal next time.

How was the sundae gukbap my companion ordered?

The sundae gukbap had plenty of sundae and meat in its hot broth. My companion started eating as soon as the food arrived, so I only got one photo at the end of the meal.

What did we finish with after the meal?

On the way out after our filling meal, I found cold coffee by the entrance.

We finished the meal with cold coffee topped with tiny floating ice crystals. For anyone feeling hungry after visiting Bukmyeon Hot Springs as we were, it was a convenient route for a warm bowl of gukbap.
