Changwon Korean restaurant for sundae gukbap: Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap

In short

Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap is a Korean restaurant in Buk-myeon, Changwon, where I had lunch with friends. We shared pork soup, sundae gukbap, and a boiled pork set meal; the rich but not overly intense pork broth and accompanying noodles stood out to me.

I stopped by Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap (명인돼지국밥) in Buk-myeon with friends for lunch in Changwon. We ordered dwaeji gukbap (pork soup with rice), sundae gukbap (Korean sausage soup with rice), and suyuk baekban (boiled pork set meal) to suit our individual tastes, then sampled each other's dishes. What stayed with me most was the rich, savory broth in the dwaeji gukbap.

Is it convenient to visit by car or dine in a group?

The parking lot was spacious, so it felt easy enough to visit by car.

The dining room was more spacious than I expected, too. The tables were generously arranged, so I could sit comfortably with my friends for lunch. Seeing the space, I thought it would also work well for a family meal or a larger group.

What did we choose for lunch with friends?

I chose dwaeji gukbap, while my friends ordered sundae gukbap and suyuk baekban. One friend who likes sundae and another who wanted meat rather than gukbap could each choose what they wanted. Ordering several dishes also made it fun to share a little of everything.

When I visited, they were also running an event where customers could receive a drink for writing a Naver receipt review.

Can you get more side dishes?

There was a self-service station on one side of the restaurant, so I could bring back more side dishes whenever I needed them. I liked the kimchi and kkakdugi, so I went back for more a few times during the meal.

After a spoonful of gukbap, the well-fermented kkakdugi made my mouth feel refreshed. Being able to take only as many side dishes as I needed was convenient, too.

How did the pork soup broth taste, and was there any odor?

From the first spoonful, I could taste the savory, rich pork broth. It was full-bodied without being overly intense, which made it easy to eat.

A spoonful of pork and broth together felt satisfying. When I ate it, I did not notice much of the distinctive pork odor either.

How did I eat the extra noodles and gangdoenjang?

Guksu sari (extra noodles) came with the gukbap. Once I added them to the broth, they absorbed the rich flavor and went down smoothly. Alternating between rice and noodles gave me a slightly different way to enjoy the same bowl.

Among the basic side dishes, the gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste dip) stayed with me. I tried it wrapped in lettuce like ssam, and it paired well enough that I had a few bites even before eating the gukbap. The kimchi, kkakdugi, and other side dishes also went well with the soup.

How did lunch with friends feel?

We each chose a dish, shared bites, and had a relaxed lunch while talking. With its spacious setting and menu choices, I felt it would suit a meal with friends or family, too.

The rich broth, rice, and extra noodles made me feel full. The iced coffee I had after finishing the meal was good, too.
