Palgongsan Korean restaurant with angelica leaf wraps: Imga-ne Ureong

In short

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is a Korean restaurant on Seochon-ro at the foot of Palgongsan in Dong-gu, Daegu, serving ureong ssamjang (freshwater snail dipping paste) and stone pot rice. A three-generation family of grandparents, parents and three kids came for a weekend lunch and ordered the Dangsindo set (17,000 won) and the Chinguya set (15,000 won); the kids especially loved the herbal boiled pork with no gamey smell and the grilled mackerel, crisp outside and moist inside. Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is a reliable Palgongsan lunch spot for big families whose tastes range from grandparents to grandkids.

The weather finally cooled down, so on the weekend my husband, our three kids and I, plus my parents, headed out to Palgongsan in Daegu for some fresh air!

Food comes first, right?! With such a big family, picking a menu everyone would like was the biggest mission. We decided on ssambap (wrap rice), something easy on the stomach and filling for both adults and kids, and went with the family to Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap, a well-known spot near Palgongsan in Daegu.

Big family parking and weekend waits at Palgongsan's Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap has a large dedicated lot right in front, so even our big family arriving in multiple cars had no parking worries. I'd secretly been anxious about parking since we needed several cars for the whole family. Luckily the lot in front was so spacious that parking stress was zero!

Since it's a famous Korean restaurant near Palgongsan, Daegu, there was a bit of a wait at weekend lunchtime, but with parking sorted, waiting felt a lot more relaxed.

Near the entrance there was homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink), coffee and chaga mushroom tea, good for passing the wait or enjoying as dessert.

Interior and seating

Inside, the wood-toned interior gave off a warm, cozy vibe. I wanted to snap the full dining room, but even though it wasn't chaotic, it was fully booked, so I held off taking photos out of respect for other diners' privacy.

Since the restaurant was packed, our family unfortunately couldn't all sit at one table T_T. We split into an adults' table and a kids' table, but that actually worked out great — each table could enjoy the food at its own pace and style!

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap menu and prices: what we ordered

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap builds each meal around a base of ureong ssamjang (snail-fermented wrap sauce) and stone pot rice, plus a main dish of your choice. That day we ordered 'Dangshindo' (₩17,000) and 'Chinguya' (₩15,000). Browsing the tablet menu, set names like 'Chinguya' (friend), 'Dangshindo' (you too), and 'Manichigeo' (eat a lot) were witty and fun to choose from!

  • Dangshindo: boiled pork + mackerel + ureong ssamjang, ₩17,000
  • Chinguya: boiled pork + ureong ssamjang, ₩15,000
  • Extra pot rice ordered for the three kids

Side dishes: the sweet-sour young cabbage salad was art

After ordering, neat little side dishes were set on the table.

If I had to pick my three favorites, they'd be the sweet-and-sour young cabbage salad, the cabbage salad with perilla dressing, and the slightly bitter seasoned greens. The cabbage salad especially was pure art! It's fresher and more like a salad than regular kimchi, making it a perfect appetizer before the main meal.

Is the wrap veggie bar really unlimited?

Yes! Off to the side of the restaurant, the self-serve bar was stacked with fresh, unlimited wrap greens like angelica and kale. It wasn't just about quantity either — they had a good variety of greens I personally love but rarely find, which made it even more appealing and honestly wonderful♡

Just from a rough count, there were more than 8 kinds.

A handful that filled the whole palm!! Haha, it made me happy just looking at it.

Would the kids actually eat herbal boiled pork and grilled mackerel?

Imga-ne's herbal boiled pork was tender with absolutely no off odor, so even our three kids, who can be picky about boiled pork's smell, ate it right up. When the mains arrived, the biggest surprise was our kids' reaction!! Kids often avoid boiled pork because of its distinct smell, but this herbal version was odor-free and so tender!

They said the subtle herbal medicine scent was actually appealing, and ate with real gusto.

Plus, the big grilled mackerel — crispy outside, juicy inside — completely won over our youngest. Once I deboned it for her, she polished off a whole bowl of rice. Seeing the kids eat so well made this mom's heart very proud♡

Fragrance-free, savory stone pot rice

I can't skip talking about the pot rice I love so much!! I have a sensitive nose, so strong-smelling food is hard for me, but Imga-ne's pot rice had no black rice odor at all — just chewy, savory, and delicious.

The adults wrap with angelica leaf and ureong ssamjang

The adults dove into the rich, special ureong ssamjang! Piling rice and a piece of boiled pork onto a big angelica leaf, then heaping on the ssamjang, made for a wrap that felt like it was doing your whole body good.

The ureong ssamjang wasn't salty at all — full of savory umami, truly excellent.

The tot (seaweed) pot rice we missed and regretted

But in the middle of eating away... I noticed 'tot pot rice' tucked in the corner of the menu T_T. I genuinely love tot (seaweed) rice, so I was so disappointed I saw it too late, even though I was already full. Next visit, I'm reserving the tot pot rice for sure!

Finishing with sungnyung, homemade sikhye, and chaga tea

After the meal, we settled our stomachs with stone pot sungnyung (scorched rice tea), then wrapped things up perfectly with the sweet homemade sikhye and the rich chaga mushroom tea they said they brew every morning.

Final thoughts: how was it as a 3-generation family meal?

Even though our big family had to split into two tables, everyone from the grandparents down to our youngest left satisfied and full after this Palgongsan lunch. If you're looking for a restaurant good for taking your parents, or an easy, hearty meal, definitely stop by Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap! It'll be a family outing the whole family enjoys♡
