Andover is a brunch and Western-food restaurant on the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a weekend visit with her sister, the writer ordered the fresh basil salad (24,000 won), the signature lasagna (29,000 won) and the anchovy pasta, and the lasagna's layers of homemade ragù and béchamel stood out most. Nothing at Andover tasted heavy or over-salted, so three dishes worked well shared between two people.
Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch is a cauldron-lid raw ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) restaurant near Gaenari Park in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, Hwaseong. On a weekend dinner date, two servings of raw ogyeopsal at 19,000 won each arrived with cha-dol doenjang jjigae (beef brisket soybean paste stew) and radish salad fried rice at 5,000 won, and the staff kept grilling at the table so the meal stayed relaxed. With no gamey smell, a myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) dip worth trying and a strong finish of fried rice, Gogigaondang is a Dongtan BBQ spot worth returning to.
