Date-night Korean BBQ in Dongtan with radish fried rice: Gogigaondang

In short

Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch is a cauldron-lid raw ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) restaurant near Gaenari Park in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, Hwaseong. On a weekend dinner date, two servings of raw ogyeopsal at 19,000 won each arrived with cha-dol doenjang jjigae (beef brisket soybean paste stew) and radish salad fried rice at 5,000 won, and the staff kept grilling at the table so the meal stayed relaxed. With no gamey smell, a myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) dip worth trying and a strong finish of fried rice, Gogigaondang is a Dongtan BBQ spot worth returning to.

There are so many BBQ restaurants these days, right? So even if a place is pretty good, I usually just think "tasty~" and move on. But here, the second we started eating, my boyfriend and I kept saying "wow, this meat is really good" — I lost count of how many times haha.

Out of all the pork I've eaten recently, this ranks among the best I've had... 🤍

There were two of us, and we ordered: ✔️two servings of pork belly ✔️cha-dol doenjang jjigae ✔️radish salad fried rice — and left comfortably full!

And something I loved here was the side dish spread.

There's kimchi and various sides that go great grilled alongside the meat, so it was fun putting them on the cauldron lid one by one and eating together.

They also serve house-made kimchi using domestic ingredients!!

There's also a self-serve corner, so you can grab what you need easily!

What we ordered: ✔️two servings of raw pork belly ✔️cha-dol doenjang jjigae ✔️radish salad fried rice — just this, and it was plenty filling for two.

Cauldron-lid raw ogyeopsal: the staff grill it for you

Two servings of raw pork belly on a plate at Gogigaondang

The moment the meat arrived, you could tell it looked great.

Cross-section of thickly sliced raw pork belly

Thickly sliced, with a great ratio of lean meat to fat — you could just tell by looking that it was fresh!

And here, the staff kept grilling the meat for us the whole time, so all we had to do was eat comfortably haha.

This is honestly great for a date, isn't it? No need for one person to hold the tongs and keep checking the meat — we could just chat and eat, which was really nice.

Staff grilling pork belly on the cauldron lid

And since it's not just a regular grill plate but a cauldron lid, the fat from the meat drips down and grills the kimchi and sides together too... it's honestly hard for that to taste bad... 🥹

Don't skip the myeoljeot anchovy dip

And if you go here, you really need to try the myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce). The meat was amazing that day, but honestly the myeoljeot is what stuck with me most haha.

Myeoljeot dipping sauce at Gogigaondang

Dip a well-grilled piece of pork belly lightly in the myeoljeot, and the savory meat gets an extra salty umami kick — genuinely so good...

If you like myeoljeot, you absolutely have to dip here. I think I ate almost all my meat with it haha.

Cha-dol doenjang jjigae, the beef brisket soybean stew

And eating meat without a hot bowl of doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) just feels incomplete.

We also ordered the cha-dol doenjang jjigae, and sipping the broth between bites of pork belly hit the spot.

Ordering a stew alongside instead of just eating meat nonstop made the menu combination much better for two people.

Finishing with radish salad fried rice

And of course, the finale is fried rice! Here it's not just plain fried rice but radish salad fried rice, which made me even more curious.

Radish salad fried rice being cooked on the cauldron lid

They fry it right on the cauldron lid, and the rice wasn't mushy at all — fluffy and just right, exactly my style 🤍

Fluffy, well-fried radish salad fried rice

With the radish salad mixed in, it wasn't heavy at all even after eating meat, and I kept going back for more. If you're coming for cauldron-lid pork belly, I highly recommend finishing with the radish salad fried rice!!

Is Gogigaondang good for a weekend dinner date in Dongtan?

We visited for a weekend dinner date with my boyfriend, and Gogigaondang is genuinely a place I want to go back to for the meat alone. There are so many cauldron-lid pork belly places these days, and plenty where staff grill for you, but what matters most in the end is whether the meat itself is actually good, right?

A well-grilled piece of Gogigaondang pork belly

From the very first bite, there was zero gamey smell, the texture was great, and the savory flavor really came through. Among the Dongtan BBQ places I've visited recently, this was one of the most satisfying.

If you're looking for a good pork belly spot in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, or a great place for cauldron-lid ogyeopsal, I fully recommend Gogigaondang 🤍
