Where is Jojo, the Japanese restaurant in AK Plaza Suwon?
While looking for a good Japanese restaurant near AK Suwon, I visited Jojo, a teppanyaki specialty restaurant on the basement level of AK Plaza Suwon. It's a great spot for a quick meal while shopping, and above all, the atmosphere made me feel comfortable eating alone without any awkwardness — perfect for solo dining.

The basement 1 food hall at AK Plaza Suwon
Jojo AK Plaza Suwon sits right in front of the basement 1 food hall entrance, next to Starbucks, so it wasn't hard to find even on my first visit. It's also connected to Suwon Station, making it convenient for either lunch or dinner.

Looking for a place to eat inside AK Plaza, you'll find crowded spots like the food hall, but this was a nice option when I wanted to enjoy teppanyaki dishes at a more relaxed pace.

Three-sided bar seating for relaxed solo dining
Jojo has bar-style tables on three sides, so people dining alone can eat comfortably. Sometimes solo dining can feel awkward, but there was little of that pressure here.

Teppanyaki cooked to order in Jojo's open kitchen
Jojo is a teppanyaki specialty restaurant centered on okonomiyaki (savory pancake) and yakisoba (stir-fried noodles), along with various Japanese dishes like mentaiko gyoza (pollack roe dumplings). The kitchen is open, so you can watch the food being cooked right on the griddle. It was fun to watch the whole process, and the space felt clean and well managed.

There are set menus with yakisoba and okonomiyaki, as well as a set for two, so it works whether you come alone or as a couple.

Joining Jojo's receipt event for a free drink
If you join the receipt event, they'll give you a free drink, so be sure to participate when you visit.

New at Jojo: sio fried rice and yaki fried rice
Beyond okonomiyaki and yakisoba, Jojo offers a variety of teppanyaki dishes. Among them, sio fried rice and yaki fried rice have recently launched as new items. It was nice to see the menu expand so people looking for rice dishes have more options too. Next time I visit, I'm trying the fried rice haha.

The yakisoba set: noodles paired with mentaiko gyoza
The menu I ordered was the yakisoba set. The yakisoba, stir-fried nicely on the griddle, came out well-seasoned so I didn't need to add anything extra. The noodles were chewy and had that distinctive yakisoba umami flavor.

Best of all, it wasn't just noodles — the gyoza that came with it made the meal quite filling. Eating the yakisoba first and then a gyoza in between, the different textures and flavors complemented each other better than I expected.

Dip the gyoza in tobiko mayo sauce
The gyoza was fine on its own, but I personally liked it best dipped in the tobiko (flying fish roe) mayo sauce. The savory, smooth mayo sauce combined with the popping texture of the tobiko paired really well with the gyoza. If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant near AK Suwon for a quick solo meal, the yakisoba set is a solid choice.

Jojo's cute aprons
Who knew a disposable apron could be this cute. They give you one each, so you can eat comfortably.
A good spot for solo dining at AK Plaza Suwon
Trying the yakisoba set in person, it was well-seasoned and delicious, and I especially liked dipping the gyoza in the tobiko mayo sauce. From bar tables to shared table seating, Jojo has a variety of seating options that made it easy to visit alone. If you're shopping at AK Plaza and looking for somewhere to eat solo, or craving teppanyaki like yakisoba and okonomiyaki, give this Japanese restaurant near AK Suwon a try.
