What is Nonchalant Lounge, and when is it open?

Nonchalant Lounge (논샬랑라운지) is a Western restaurant at 896 Jeongjo-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, on the 1st floor, right in front of Janganmun Gate at Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–22:00, closed every Monday, with a 15:00–17:00 break time on weekdays.

I wanted good Western food in Haenggung-dong on a weekday evening, so I went to Nonchalant Lounge. Honestly, I picked it at first because the mood looked pretty, but once I ate there, the food stuck with me more.

From the thick, rich classic carbonara to the juicy chuck flap steak, every dish we ordered satisfied us!! It's not just a pretty place, so if you're looking for a Suwon Hwaseong restaurant that gets the food right too, it's worth keeping an eye on~🫢

It sits right in front of Janganmun Gate, so it wasn't hard to find.

In the evening the building's exterior is softly lit, so I bet it looks lovely even from far away.

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Nonchalant Lounge?

Nonchalant Lounge is a calm, lounge-like space with slightly dim lighting and mostly sofa seating. The food was good, but I really, really loved the space. Visiting on a weekday evening made it feel even prettier.

The tidy lounge feel and sofa seats were comfortable, and the space was bigger than I expected. The lighting and table layout seemed carefully thought out, so there were plenty of spots for photos.

I think it would be nice for a Haenggung-dong brunch during the day too, but personally I liked the evening, when the lights come on, especially. It looked good for a quiet couple's dinner, or for a relaxed chat with a friend you haven't seen in a while.

I think it suits anyone looking for a Suwon Hwaseong restaurant with a great mood!!

What's on the food and drink menu?

During the day you can have Haenggung-dong brunch, and in the evening the menu is built around pasta and steak that go well with wine.

Besides wine, there was a wide choice of drinks too: highballs, draft beer, dark beer, non-alcoholic drinks, coffee and more~

What should two people order?

The two of us ordered one pasta and one steak (with garlic butter rice added). The combination worked well, and value for the price was decent overall, so it didn't feel like a stretch for a nice meal in Haenggung-dong.

Classic carbonara

The classic carbonara here is the thick kind, where the sauce clings richly to the noodles. It came out first, and it felt totally different from the usual carbonara loaded with cream sauce!

The sauce isn't watery but thick, so you get a properly nutty, savory flavor from the first bite. The noodles were cooked well, and the bacon had real presence, so the texture and salty flavor went nicely together.

I personally like thick, rich pasta, so I enjoyed it a lot. If you're hunting for Haenggung-dong brunch and love pasta, it's worth ordering once.

Chuck flap steak platter and garlic butter rice

The chuck flap steak platter (₩37,000) at Nonchalant Lounge was moist and juicy, tasty even on its own. You can add Maldon salt, buttery galbi sauce, whole-grain mustard and more to taste, so I never got tired of it before finishing the plate.

Eating the grilled vegetables together with the steak balanced it nicely too. I think pasta alone would have felt a little lacking, so I was glad we ordered the steak as well.

I added garlic butter rice to go with the steak, and with its faint garlic aroma and the nutty richness of butter, it was good even on its own.

Together with the chuck flap steak the pairing worked well, and I was glad to have added it as a side. It's not a place that only put effort into the mood; the food was properly good, so coming for a Suwon Hwaseong restaurant was worth it~!

Is the food as good as the atmosphere?

With pretty restaurants, the food can sometimes be a bit disappointing, but at Nonchalant Lounge we enjoyed both dishes.

The classic carbonara was thick and nutty, and the chuck flap steak platter had great meat flavor and a nice variety of accompaniments. The two dishes paired well when ordered together. Above all, the restaurant's mood was so pretty that I was in a good mood throughout the meal.

The vibe seemed to shift a little through the day: Haenggung-dong brunch by day, a spot for a date or a glass of wine in the evening.

We had a reservation, so we were seated right away without waiting, and the service overall was comfortable, with nothing that bothered us during the meal. A Naver receipt review event is also running, so take note if that's useful!

I chose it for the mood, but it's the food I keep thinking about!

I went expecting only a pretty interior, but both the classic carbonara and the chuck flap steak platter were delicious, so I was happier than expected. Considering the mood, the food and the price together, it's a Suwon Hwaseong restaurant I'd remember for a Haenggung-dong date.

Verdict: who is Nonchalant Lounge best for?

Even among Haenggung-dong's pretty restaurants, Nonchalant Lounge seems best for people who want something a bit calmer and more relaxed. It looked fine not only for a date with a partner, but also for a blind date or a dinner with friends where you want some atmosphere.

You could also visit during the day for Haenggung-dong brunch and then stroll around Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.

Being close to Janganmun Gate, it's also great for a walk before or after the meal.

Food matters, but if you want the atmosphere of the space too, this is a Suwon Hwaseong restaurant worth remembering!!
