I liked that it didn’t just come with the liquid—the brush was included too, so there was no hassle of preparing one separately. I also remembered using something called varnish in art class years ago, so I worried it might have a strong smell. But when I opened it, I was surprised that this water-based product was almost odorless. Hosoon has severe atopic dermatitis, so we never use products with harsh smells, but this felt completely comfortable to use together with a child.

The cap was a little confusing to open

At first, I fumbled around for a moment trying to work out how to open it. You don’t twist off the whole cap; you lightly twist the top section to open a small hole, then squeeze the liquid out through it. At first I was thinking, “Why isn’t it coming out?” but once I understood the design, it was much easier. It lets you control the amount freely, and nothing spills or overflows onto the floor, so it stays nice and neat.

I used the brush to spread a thin layer of the coating agent over the foam-clay music box Hosoon made.

Because it was a clear liquid while I applied it, I briefly worried, “Huh? Is the piece going to turn cloudy?” 😂 But once it dried, a clear coating layer settled into place. The sparkle on top became much more distinct, and every little foam bead was smoothly secured, making the finished piece look so much better.

Best of all, it wasn’t sticky after drying and hardened firmly, so it felt secure even when touched. Thanks to the Hasi coating agent, I felt very satisfied that it would stay sturdy even when stored for a long time.

What reassured me when using it with my child

Whenever I do something at home with my child, I’m the kind of person who first thinks, “Is it safe?” Glosses and adhesives can often cause headaches because of their smell or irritate the skin on contact. But Hasi Diamond Painting Coating Agent is water-based PVA, so it has almost no smell and is said to be usable without concerns about environmental hormones. That was what I liked most.
