Friday 6pm black pork BBQ in Aewol, non-alcoholic beer: Nopo Dwaeji
In short
Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is an aged black pork BBQ restaurant at the entrance to Gwakji Beach in Aewol, Jeju. With a 6pm Friday booking, the writer ordered Jeju gamaegisal (pork skirt meat) 200g for ₩24,000, hangjeongsal (pork jowl) 200g for ₩26,000, bibim hoe-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles with raw fish) and a non-alcoholic Cass, and the staff grilled everything in order, so the meal took just 30 minutes. Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is a good choice for an easy black pork dinner in Gwakji or Aewol.

Today I went to a black pork favorite near Gwakji Beach — Nopo Dwaeji Aewol! You've got to eat black pork when you're in Jeju haha. Booked for 6pm on a Friday. The signboard presence alone is no joke!

This huge sign I always saw driving past!

A cute pair of black pig statues out front, ready to be eaten deliciously~~~~ (a bit cruel maybe lol)
Nopo Dwaeji Aewol: hours, parking, and basic prices
📍Hours: Daily 11:00 – 23:00 (last order 22:00) / lunch special 11:00 – 14:00 📍Parking: Dedicated parking spaces behind and beside the building 📍Main menu: Aged black pork geun-gogi 600g (neck + belly) ₩72,000 / Jeju hangjeong-sal 200g ₩24,000 / Jeju gamari-sal 200g ₩26,000 📍You can book on Catch Table!

It's right at the entrance to Gwakji Beach. Take bus 202 and get off at the 'Gwakji Mouumul' stop — it's right there!!
What's the vibe like at 6pm on a Friday?
The interior isn't huge, but it's fairly spacious — and it was packed.

Looked like a lot of families!

On one side of the restaurant you can see meat aging.

Do they pre-sear the samgyeopsal and mok-sal (pork neck)?? There's a pre-searing station here too!
Menu and order — hangjeong-sal and gamari-sal, 200g each instead of geun-gogi

The menu's mains were black pork geun-gogi (aged belly + neck), hangjeong-sal, and gamari-sal — the most basic geun-gogi comes in a fixed 600g portion. What we ordered:
Jeju gamari-sal 200g ₩24,000 Hangjeong-sal 200g ₩26,000 Bibim hoe-naengmyeon ₩8,000 Non-alcoholic Cass ₩4,000
I did want the black pork belly and neck... but 600g felt like it'd be too much, so we picked gamari-sal and hangjeong-sal since you can order them 200g at a time! Still a little disappointed though ㅠㅠ

** If you do the review event, they give you free jjigae or naengmyeon — grab it, grab it
Side dishes and the non-alcoholic beer
Standard sides: water kimchi, salted lettuce, pickled radish, marinated chili peppers, shredded radish? Pretty neat and tidy, isn't it? Clean (moms would love this). Every single side dish was good.

I really liked that water kimchi~ full of savory umami flavor!

Such a genius touch here — they have non-alcoholic beer. I gasped looking at the menu haha. Alcohol felt heavy, but I still wanted a cold beer, so — non-alcoholic it is!
Staff grill the hangjeong-sal and gamari-sal in order
Good thing number two: the staff grill it for you. So, so convenient, and it tastes better when a 'pro' (?) grills it too. They grill everything you ordered in order and then leave. First up, the gleaming hangjeong-sal.

Ohhh meat, hurry up and cook, come into my mouth. They cooked the gamari-sal a bit less because it gets tough if overcooked — that's why the hangjeong-sal went first!
The meat looks so glossy, ugh, I'm drooling just thinking about it again.

The hangjeong-sal is rich and nutty with all that fat, and the gamari-sal is a bit sweet and chewy — maybe it's seasoned? Both were so good, but between the two I vote hangjeong-sal!!!!! It was genuinely delicious ㅠㅠ Now I'm curious about the samgyeopsal and mok-sal too... a bit of regret over the menu choice...

Bibim hoe-naengmyeon for ₩8,000, alongside the meat
Cold noodles with raw fish to go with the meat!!! How could you not eat naengmyeon in this weather? This place is great not just with the meat but the side dishes and sauce too, all done well. That sauce is packed with umami!!!!!! Goes so well with the raw fish, I scraped the bowl clean. So good.

(Staff recommended dipping it in the sesame oil sauce, it's even better) You should all give it a try too — wink. I mean, we ate so happily that we walked in at 6:10 and walked out at 6:40 haha. (A whole meat restaurant meal in 30 minutes?)

How long is the wait on a Friday evening?
After eating happily and heading out, there was already a wait forming. 30 minutes of waiting… Besides Catch Table, you can also book on Naver up to a day ahead, so booking in advance is a good idea too 😉😉 If you're staying near Aewol or Gwakji Beach, you could put your name down for the wait and rest at your accommodation before coming back! Or since it's about a 20-minute walk from Gwakji to Handam, you could go for a seaside stroll while you wait too.
A walk along the beach after the meal is also recommended, to help digest~~~
Final verdict
A really good choice if you want to enjoy black pork easily near Gwakji or Aewol 👍👍👍 Grab that sunset-over-the-beach romance after dinner too
