Jeju noodle restaurant with cold pork: Handam Guksu

In short

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a noodle restaurant in Aewol, Jeju, directly opposite Handam Beach. I tried the 10,000-won beef-bone pork noodles and 15,000-won dombe naeng suyuk, and both the serving size and chewy chilled pork stood out. Verdict: a satisfying ocean-view lunch in Jeju.

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch near Handam Beach

While traveling around Jeju, I was looking for somewhere I could fill up properly while taking in a wide-open sea view, and Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점) near Handam Beach caught my eye. Whenever I come to Jeju, I just don't feel satisfied unless I make sure to have a hearty bowl of local food, so I decided this would be the pleasant meal of this trip. Sitting right in front of that beautiful emerald sea, this Aewol lunch spot was appealing from the location alone.

The area around Handam Beach, one of Aewol's hot spots, is always popular, so parking is one of the biggest worries. Thankfully, the parking support here was clearly laid out for visitors, which made getting there much easier. According to the restaurant's information, I could get one hour of free parking by using Handam Public Parking Lot (Randy's Donuts parking lot) or Handam Coastal Walkway Parking Lot. There are not many spaces in front of the restaurant, so park in the public lot!

Handam Beach ocean views from every seat

After parking easily and stepping inside, the interior and the view were even better than I expected. Every seat had an ocean view with no sense of being boxed in, and the tables were arranged so you could dine facing the broad, open Handam Beach. Being able to eat while taking in that refreshing sea scenery was the biggest highlight.

A neat self-service bar in one corner of the restaurant made it easy to help yourself to extra side dishes. There were high chairs for families, too, as well as hair ties. Such thoughtful touches 😊

Ordering beef-bone pork noodles and dombe naeng suyuk

I settled into a window seat with a great view and looked over the menu. Like a local favorite in Aewol, it was packed with a solid selection that lets you properly taste Jeju. The signature rich beef-bone pork noodles were ₩10,000, while the spicy mala pork noodles that many people order were ₩11,000. There were also refreshing dongchimi bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles with radish-water kimchi) for ₩10,000 and pork soup with rice for ₩10,000. For sides to enjoy with noodles, there were flavorful house-made tteokgalbi (grilled minced-meat patties) for ₩10,000, chive pork sundae (Korean blood sausage) for ₩15,000, and dombe naeng suyuk (chilled boiled pork) for ₩15,000.

💰 Beef-bone pork noodles ₩10,000 💰 Dombe naeng suyuk ₩15,000 To really enjoy Jeju's flavors, we ordered the restaurant's signature beef-bone pork noodles together with the dombe naeng suyuk. They say everything is carefully made with ingredients prepared fresh every morning, and when the dishes arrived, the generous portions and appetizing presentation immediately drew my eyes.

Rich, deeply savory beef-bone pork noodles

First, I spooned up some of the milky broth from the rich beef-bone pork noodles. It already looked wonderfully concentrated, and it filled my mouth with a full-bodied texture and deep savory flavor. The seasoning was just right—not overpowering—and it felt soothing on the stomach. And the noodles were a little ramen-like, which I loved! A generous amount of Jeju pork was piled on top, and eating the springy noodles and tender meat together made for great texture and a truly filling meal.

Chewy dombe naeng suyuk, my first time trying it

It was my first time ever having chilled boiled pork. It was cold, yet I could taste every bit of the meat's flavor, which was fascinating. This place must have its own know-how. It was far chewier than regular suyuk. So, so chewy, with absolutely no porky smell... I want to eat it again even as I write this 🥹

Comparison of regular and large pork noodle portions

The regular size is on the left and the large size is on the right. After one bite, I regretted not ordering the large because it was so good.... But the funny thing is, I still left some behind. Even the regular serving is sooo huge!

A filling Aewol lunch by the sea

It was an incredibly satisfying lunch to enjoy carefully made Aewol pork noodles while looking straight out at Jeju's clear sea. The food was delicious, of course, but the refreshing ocean view somehow made the flavors feel even better.

Notice for a free Jeju hallabong citrus crunch gift with a photo review

Also, if you leave a photo review, they give you a whole box of Jeju hallabong citrus crunch. The service really seems top-notch.

For reference, Naver reservations are available, and it is a participating merchant where you can use local currencies such as Tamna Jeon (paper, card, and mobile versions all accepted), as well as high-fuel-price support funds by credit or debit card. There is also table seating for groups of 6 to 24 people, so it looks perfectly suitable for group gatherings.

If you want to park easily around Handam Beach and have a hearty taste of Jeju, I recommend stopping by. + One tip I learned from visiting myself: similarly named lots called “Handam Parking Lot 1” and “Handam Parking Lot 2” do not offer any parking support at all. At first I thought any nearby lot would work, but I could easily have been confused if I had not read the details carefully. Be sure to enter the exact parking lot name into your navigation app and get that parking benefit!
