Date-night Korean BBQ in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju: mango beer, Anmin
In short
Anmin is an upscale Korean BBQ restaurant with a black-toned interior, tucked deep inside the Bongmyeong-dong dining alley in Cheongju, Chungbuk. Staff grill the half-pig set — pork belly, pork neck and pork skin — at the table, then move the cooked meat onto a solid-fuel grill so it stays hot to the last bite, with shiitake-wasabi and cheese fondue sauces and mango beer alongside. Between the sauces, the drinks and the mood, Anmin works well as a date-night stop in Cheongju.

Anmin Cheongju: inside the Bongmyeong-dong dining alley
Tucked inside the Bongmyeong-dong dining alley in Cheongju, Anmin has an exterior that feels a bit different from your typical BBQ joint. From the outside alone, it already gives off a clean, upscale feel.
If you're looking for a good-vibe BBQ restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, this could be a great pick.
Heads up though — reservations are basically a must for evening visits, since it gets busy.
Walking in, the clean atmosphere from outside carried straight through. Even the waiting area had good vibes, haha.
Walk-in waiting is also an option, just so you know.
The interior leans heavily on black tones overall, giving it a calm yet upscale feel — a bit more refined than your average samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) place.
So it seemed like it'd work well not just for family meals, but also for dates or group gatherings.
Each table also has a neat built-in grill and ventilation system, which kept the whole meal fairly comfortable air-quality-wise.
What the table looks like when you reserve ahead at Anmin
Since I'd made a reservation, the table setting was already prepared when we arrived.

Such clean plating!

What stood out most was the variety of sauces and side dishes to go with the meat.
I was customer number 56,343, haha.

Anmin's menu, side dishes and three sauces
This Bongmyeong-dong spot in Cheongju has a variety of dishes using fresh (uncured) pork. From standards like pork belly and pork neck to specialty cuts and pork skin, there's a lot to try — and if you want to enjoy several cuts at once, the set menu is well put together.

The basic side dishes were neat and clean.

There were a lot of sauces to enjoy with the meat, but this shiitake-wasabi one especially was so good I almost asked for the recipe, ㅠㅠ

From mango beer to the half-pig set
Can't have meat without beer~~ I spotted a mango beer I'd never seen before, so I gave it a try.

It had that distinct mango sweetness and fragrance, which made for a nice change of pace.

They loaded in some good-looking charcoal,

and then our half-pig set arrived.
Thick-cut pork belly, pork neck, and pork skin all came out together — just the sight of it looked generous.
Staff grilling at the table, then the solid-fuel grill
Above all, Anmin's biggest advantage is the tableside grilling service. Staff grill each cut to the right doneness themselves, so we got to just relax and chat while the meat cooked.
I really love thick-cut pork neck, but if you time the grilling wrong, the outside burns while the inside stays underdone. Having staff constantly check and grill it definitely made things easier.
The ventilation was also great, so there was no worry about smelling like BBQ afterward.
And here's the part I personally loved most — after finishing the grilling, the staff moved the meat onto a solid-fuel grill, arranged nicely for eating.

Thanks to that, the grilled meat stayed warm instead of cooling down, so it was delicious right to the last bite. That kind of attention to detail made the whole meal feel effortless.
Pork neck, pork belly and the best sauce pairings
The pork neck was grilled moist instead of dry, ㅠㅠ the best, ㅠㅠ
They kept adding pork belly bar by bar so it never ran out.

While the pork belly was cooking, we enjoyed the pork neck, haha. Wrapped in a lettuce wrap and eaten in one big bite, it was so good.
And this cheese fondue sauce especially — the best..! You'd think cheese sauce with meat might be too rich, but the creaminess of the cheese actually paired amazingly well with the pork.

In the end, we ordered a Terra too, lol — beer really is the move with meat,,
The pork belly finished grilling and got moved onto the solid-fuel grill — and honestly, how good does this look?
It was arranged so neatly and prettily that it lifted my mood too.
Grilled to just the right point, with a gorgeous color — the pork belly!

The pork belly was also sliced thick, so it had a great chew to it.

The moist grilled king oyster mushroom, dipped generously in fish sauce — yum.
A bite with the shiitake-wasabi sauce

Browned golden on the outside and moist on the inside — so good.

This time, cumin (jjeran)! It was fun trying all the different combos.
Wrapped in a lettuce wrap with barley doenjang (soybean paste), too
It was also great with the pickled sides,,
I scraped the cheese fondue sauce completely clean, lol.
With sides like hairtail jeotgal (salted hairtail entrails) and green onion kimchi to go with the meat, there was plenty to pick and choose from.
The vegetables I dipped generously in the fish sauce, haha.
Finishing with chewy grilled pork skin
Lastly, they grilled up some chewy pork skin for us.

After the pork belly and pork neck, the pork skin brought a nice change of texture — chewy with a savory finish, and it made a great drinking snack too.

If you want to try several cuts at once, the half-pig set is definitely a solid choice.
Is Anmin Cheongju a good date-night restaurant?
This Bongmyeong-dong BBQ restaurant in Cheongju let me enjoy great meat while also enjoying great atmosphere. What I loved most was that staff grill the meat for you and keep it warm on a solid-fuel grill so it doesn't cool down.
The place is upscale and clean, so it seems like a great fit not just for a blind date or a date night, but also for family meals, work dinners, and gatherings of all kinds. It's somewhere I'd love to go back to next time I'm craving Korean BBQ :)
