In short
Bubuduri Tteokbokki (부부두리떡볶이) is a 20-year-old snack bar in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju that started out as a food truck. Arriving with her dad as the first customers at 11:30am on a weekday, the writer ordered duri tteokbokki (6,000 won), bubu fritters (8,000 won) and mul-eomuk fish cake skewers (3,000 won), and liked the sweet-spicy wheat rice cakes with the big, hearty fritters. Bubuduri Tteokbokki also pours alcohol until 2-3am, so it doubles as a good-value late-night bar.

A snack bar in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju — a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) spot in Bongmyeong-dong: Bubuduri Tteokbokki.
I had errands nearby with my dad and we ended up stopping for lunch at this Bongmyeong-dong snack bar restaurant. Turns out it's a 20-year-old tteokbokki place that started out as a food truck bar! The tteokbokki really hit the spot, so let me introduce Duri Tteokbokki in Bongmyeong-dong.

Where the Bongmyeong-dong main branch is, and what it looks like

Cheongju's Bubuduri Tteokbokki has two locations — one in Geumcheon-dong, and this one in Bongmyeong-dong is actually the main branch. It sits right in front of the Bongmyeong iPark Apartment bus stop. There's no dedicated parking, so we parked in a nearby alley before visiting.
Inside Bubuduri Tteokbokki: takeout counter and self bar

Walk in through the left entrance and you'll see fritters, tteokbokki, and fish cakes all ready to go 👀 You can order takeout right here.

Through the right entrance is a dining area with lots of tables. We came around 11:30am on a weekday, so we felt like we were the first customers?! Delivery orders started trickling in soon after.

There's also a self bar on one side. Help yourself to as much pickled radish and fish cake broth as you like.

A bar at night? Open until 2-3am with alcohol

Tteokbokki as a side dish with drinks is a combo you end up craving, isn't it~ And it's such good value as a bar snack!! A great Bongmyeong-dong bar for a second or third round 🍻 Check the tablet screen photo for the current in-store menu ✅

Duri tteokbokki, 6,000 won: sweet-spicy wheat rice cakes

Bouncy wheat rice cakes, chewy fish cakes, and a sweet-spicy broth generously poured over — Duri Tteokbokki! The dish was deeper than expected, so the portion was actually pretty generous too.

The rice cakes were super chewy, coated nicely in sauce — really delicious. The sauce leans sweet-spicy, but with a stronger sweetness! It tasted like the tteokbokki you'd get at a snack bar in front of a school, or from a street food cart 🧡 I usually prefer less-sweet tteokbokki, but this one was good enough that I wanted more…!! A true Bongmyeong-dong tteokbokki spot!
Bubu fritters, 8,000 won: what's in the mix and how crisp

The Bubu Fritters combo comes with 3 squid, 2 kimmari (seaweed noodle rolls), 2 sweet potato, and 1 mandu (dumpling). All the fritters were nice and hefty.

Honestly, just looking at them or cutting into them, they didn't look that crispy — but once I took a bite, they were super crunchy?!

The sweet potato fritter was especially good — a bit thick and sweet — and the squid was plump with a nice texture too. There was also plenty of tteokbokki broth for dipping the fritters. Honestly, for a bar snack, this is top-tier value! 👍 If this were near my house I'd probably come all the time…ㅠㅠ

Mul-eomuk fish cake skewers, 3,000 won
The mul-eomuk comes with 3 pieces and had a nice chew. Sipping the warm broth alongside a drink seems like a solid move.
Is Bubuduri Tteokbokki worth a weekday morning visit?
Bubuduri Tteokbokki is a good Bongmyeong-dong snack bar spot to hit when you're craving sweet-spicy tteokbokki like the kind you'd get in front of a school. The tteokbokki was sweet-spicy with plenty of broth, great for dipping the crispy fritters into. Since they also sell alcohol, it's a Bongmyeong-dong tteokbokki spot you can drop into casually, like a good-value bar.
