Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch (벽돌 생갈비 종로점) is a fresh galbi restaurant in Jongno, Daegu, and I chose it while looking for a special dinner spot for my friends. Hunting down good Daegu restaurants is more than just eating for me, it's a real joy, and this place caught my eye right away. From the atmosphere to the careful service, it beat my expectations on every count, so I really wanted to share it. If you want a happy time with people you love over good food, this post should help.

What are the opening hours?
Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is open 17:00 to 01:00, with last order at 00:00. That leaves plenty of room for a gathering that starts in the evening and runs late.

Atmosphere and location: high ceilings, near Jungangno Station
With its stylish interior and high ceilings, this is a spacious, open-feeling galbi restaurant. If you're looking for a good-vibe barbecue place in Jongno, Daegu, this could be the answer. The moment I walked in, it felt really pleasant. The hall is big, so it looked fine for group get-togethers and company dinners too. It's near Jungangno Station, so access is great and it's an easy place to arrange a meetup. The space has its own distinct feel, so it would also be lovely for a cozy date. I can't believe I only found it now, and I've already added it to my Daegu restaurant list.

What we ordered: brick-cut fresh galbi and bakpo pork galbi
That day we ordered the brick-cut fresh galbi (beokdol saenggalbi) and the bakpo pork fresh galbi. As you'd expect from a galbi specialist, the meat quality really stood out. The menu had plenty of variety: Uiseong garlic fresh galbi, brick-cut fresh galbi, brick-cut marinated galbi, bakpo pork fresh galbi and more.

Basic side dishes at Jangjak Saenggalbi
The basic table setting includes geotjeori (fresh kimchi), shredded radish, pickles, white kimchi, garlic, ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste), pickled chili peppers, sauce and salt, all meant to go with the meat. Soon after we ordered, the table was laid out very neatly.

Crunchy shredded radish, refreshing water kimchi and soy-pickled perilla leaves were the perfect supporting cast to bring out the flavor of the meat. You could feel the pride of a Daegu restaurant in these side dishes. One bite and I understood why this Jongno branch is so talked about.

Do the staff grill all the meat?
Yes, at Jangjak Saenggalbi an experienced staff member grills the meat for you from start to finish. This really impressed me, and since it was a hot early-summer day, I was so glad they did all of it.
They grilled it crisp outside and juicy inside so no juices escaped, and I could just chat comfortably and eat. That made it even better for a get-together with friends.
I was amazed at the care they took, even neatly cutting the meat off the bone.

How the galbi tastes and how I recommend eating it
The fresh galbi here had a tender, meaty aroma that spread through my mouth, absolutely the best. The meat quality is so good that it tasted great just dipped in soy sauce or salt.

Wrapping it in a lettuce ssam with pickled chili peppers and shredded radish gave it a different flavor too, so delicious! ^^

Finishing the meal: doenjang stew and rice bowl
The warm doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice bowl we had at the end were a perfect combo. The rice bowl was generous, about two servings. With lettuce, egg and nutty crumbled gim (seaweed) added, it was heavenly alongside the savory stew. The stew was also packed with tofu and meat ^^ Ending the day with this food made me so happy.
Would I go back?
After eating my fill of delicious meat, I was so satisfied that I wondered why I hadn't found Jangjak Saenggalbi sooner. The taste and the friendly service were both great, so I plan to visit again soon.
