Gangnam Chinese restaurant on a weekday evening: mala tofu, Namsogwan

Today I had beef noodles at Gangnam Station !! Namsogwan here is one of the go-to Chinese restaurants in Gangnam. This was actually my second visit, so let me introduce this beef dosakmyeon spot properly !!

Where is Namsogwan and when is it open?

Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon (남소관 우육도삭면) is at 19 Teheran-ro 1-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, spread across the 1st and 2nd floors. It's open daily 11:00–22:20, last order at 22:00, and there's no regular closing day. Staying open late is such a plus ,, 👍

Namsogwan is about 3 minutes from Gangnam Station Exit 11! It's right in the alley you hit after turning the corner. It's next to Jangin Dakgalbi !! No building parking, so use the paid lots nearby.

The 1st floor of Namsogwan has a Taiwan-like vibe, and this is where they hand-fold all the dim sum! The 2nd floor is a big hall with everything from large group tables to solo-dining spots.

This is the vibe on the 1st floor !! You get that Taiwan feeling the second you walk in, right?!

Head up to the 2nd floor and there's a spacious hall !! Big group tables, solo-dining seats, and the two-person sofa seats are so, so comfy. 👍

• Dim sum: xiaolongbao, shaomai, eggplant dumplings, and more
• Rice dishes: beef fried rice, shrimp fried rice, eggplant in fish-fragrant sauce over rice, shredded pork in fish-fragrant sauce over rice, and more
• Cooked dishes: guobaorou, fried eggplant, yurinji, gganpunggi, cream shrimp, mala tofu, tomato and egg stir-fry, cumin beef, and more

There's really such a wide, varied menu that it's fun just picking what to order ! The prices aren't intimidating either, so I'd recommend it for a Gangnam Station lunch ! With so many cooked dishes too, it also seems great for a work dinner near Gangnam Station

Beef dosakmyeon and mala tofu with rice

On this revisit to Namsogwan, I ordered mala tofu + rice and beef dosakmyeon ! I actually had the mala tofu last time and it was so good I ended up ordering it again.

The mala tofu's numbing-spicy flavor was stronger than I expected ? But eaten with rice, it's exactly the right kind of spicy-delicious !!

But this beef dosakmyeon is legendary ,, I already love the texture of thick noodles like dosakmyeon, you know? And the beef noodle broth is legendary too. The broth is so deep, incredible umami

When I came before ! I had the yubal dosakmyeon, which felt kind of like a stir-fried dosakmyeon with meat mixed in ?

Anyway, pairing it with fried rice and mala tofu is really delicious !
