Gangnam Station Chinese restaurant for cream shrimp lunch: Namsogwan

In short

Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese restaurant specialising in beef knife-cut noodles and handmade dim sum, on Teheran-ro 1-gil by Gangnam Station Exit 11 in Seoul. For lunch with my mother we ordered xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), cream shrimp and fish-fragrant eggplant over rice, and watched the dumplings being pleated by hand in the ground-floor open kitchen. Even my mother, who is sensitive to strong spices, said it was "not greasy at all" — a Gangnam Station Chinese restaurant worth booking for a family meal.

A while ago I went for lunch with my mom to a Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station that feels authentic from the moment you walk in 😍 It's Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon, a long-running favorite known for beef knife-cut noodles and its dim sum, and it's super hot right now for Gangnam Station dim sum 🔥 The food and the vibe both exceeded my expectations — perfect for a Gangnam Station lunch, and honestly great for dinner too ✨

Even the exterior had that exotic, far-from-Korea feel

Walking in on the 1st floor, we could watch Chinese chefs carefully pleating handmade dim sum and steaming them right in front of us — genuinely fun to watch 🥟👀

Past the 1st floor, we were guided up to the 2nd floor, which opened into an upscale, comfortable hall with red brick and classic lighting

The seats were cozy too — great for a date, but also perfect for a Gangnam Station office dinner or a family gathering

Each table came neatly set with roasted peanuts and zha cai (pickled mustard greens) as a basic side, and ordering was done conveniently through a tablet 👍

From dim sum to beef noodle rice bowls, there was plenty to choose from depending on your taste!!

Juicy xiaolongbao with cream shrimp and eggplant: the best combo 😋

That day we went all out ordering the signature dim sum item xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) plus other dim sum, cream shrimp as our cooked dish, and eggplant in fish-fragrant sauce over rice as our meal

Namsogwan's xiaolongbao served in a steamer basket

The xiaolongbao came fresh out of the steamer — I tore the skin a little to sip the warm broth first, then popped it in whole, and the juices burst out, so savory

Namsogwan's handmade dim sum with generous filling

Maybe because we'd watched them being hand-pleated on the 1st floor, but the wrapper was chewy and the filling generous — I have to call these the best dim sum of my life 🥟❤️

Next up, the cream shrimp: plump fried shrimp topped generously with a sweet, tangy, silky cream sauce

The crispy batter and the plump, springy shrimp meat together made every bite something to gasp over 🍤✨

Fish-fragrant eggplant over rice

The eggplant stir-fry we got as our meal was also a huge hit

The soft eggplant soaked up a rich, savory special sauce, and paired with the fragrant rice it was truly an art form 🍆🍚

Verdict: the Gangnam Chinese restaurant that won my mother over

Honestly, I was a little worried the food might not suit mom since she's sensitive to strong spices, but after one bite she couldn't stop praising it, saying "it's not greasy at all, and it's so, so good" 👩👧🤍
