Haruto is an izakaya near Exit 3 of Misa Station in Hanam, Gyeonggi, with views over Misa Lake Park. A mom and her salmon-loving kid visited Haruto in the daytime for kombu-cured salmon sashimi (26,000 won) and mentaiko cream pasta (19,000 won), and enjoyed the warm lighting, soft music and friendly service. Haruto is a Misa izakaya worth returning to for the food alone, even without drinks.
Eojil In (어질 인) is a two-floor bakery café near Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul, baking its own desserts, from financiers and madeleines to egg tarts and cakes. The writer stopped by alone on an errand for a late brunch of a decaf latte, an egg tart, a Dojima roll (soft cream roll cake) and cream cheese and chocolate financiers, and was especially pleased with the egg tart, crisp like pastry outside and moist inside. Eojil In is a Wangsimni Station café that works well for a quiet solo break or for picking up desserts as a gift.
Easy White Bread Hanam Misa is a fresh milk bread and brewed coffee bakery on Misagangbyeonbuk-ro 30Beonan-gil in Hanam, Gyeonggi, sharing its entrance and space with the ramen restaurant Menji. After lunch, the blogger had brewed coffee at Easy White Bread and took home a Golden Beurre milk bread so soft, crust included, that their child ate the whole thing. Easy White Bread is a good Hanam Misa bakery when you want lunch and dessert in one place.
Sosa Myeonok (소사면옥) Gunja branch is a Hamheung naengmyeon (cold noodle) and bossam (boiled pork) Korean restaurant on Neungdong-ro near Gunja Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. At lunch, two people shared a small Daega Bossam and an extra-large bibim naengmyeon with two portions of noodles for ₩52,000 in total, and enjoyed the tender bossam with the clean-tasting Hamheung noodles. With parking out front and spacious seating, Sosa Myeonok is a place the writer wants to revisit for a family meal.
Upper and Under (어퍼앤언더) is a dessert café on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Seoul, spread over the basement, 1st and 2nd floors. The writer wandered into Upper and Under with a younger sibling and had the canelé and chocolate cream pie the pâtissier recommended, along with the signature latte, in a spacious, airy room with a big indoor tree and high ceilings. With its crisp-outside, moist-inside canelé and nutty coffee, Upper and Under is a café the two promised to revisit.
5to7 Seongsu Main Branch is a soufflé café in a side alley off the Seoulsup café street in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. On a second visit, a family of four (two kids and their parents) walked into 5to7 without a reservation on a weekend afternoon and ordered a mango soufflé, an iced latte and a cream cheese choco latte. With a calm atmosphere where families with kids feel welcome, 5to7 Seongsu Main Branch is a good stop on a family day out at Seoulsup.
Naemyeonui Balgyeon (내면의 발견, "for inside") is a large café on Woldeukeopbuk-ro 5-gil in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, Seoul, with a stepping-stone path over water and a mossy mini waterfall indoors. Before a movie, a mom, dad and child shared a salmon bowl (15,900 won), shio ramen (11,000 won) and a king-size Western-style pork cutlet (11,900 won), and were happy with the rich ramen broth, the big cutlet and the friendly service. Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a good-value Japanese spot near Konkuk Univ. where families can drop in easily for around 11,000 to 16,000 won per dish.
