I've been seeing people on YouTube wash their face and even shampoo with soap lately, so I went looking for something gentle enough for morning use.

What I've been using every morning lately is Receptor Perfumed Seed Soap Ecru.

Receptor Perfumed Seed Soap comes in three lines:

• Siena, for sensitive and dry skin texture
• Ecru, focused on refining dead skin buildup and rough texture
• Verdant, for skin bothered by dryness and tightness

Of the three, I picked Ecru to try.

The packaging keeps the seed shape too, so just leaving one out in the bathroom feels like an object in itself — I think it'd make a decent housewarming or Chuseok gift.

What's in Ecru: macadamia oil and red bean powder

Ecru's key ingredients are macadamia oil and red bean powder. Macadamia oil is known for a composition similar to skin lipids, so it's often used as a base that leaves skin moisturized rather than tight after washing, or so I've read.

Red bean powder is finely ground, so it's said to work like a scrub, smoothing out texture.

With both ingredients together, it cleanses and refines texture at the same time.

The point of this line is supposedly that it holds much more seed oil than a typical soap, and after trying it, I get what that means!

How does a seed oil soap feel on the skin?

What I was curious about was the seed oil itself. Oil pressed from seeds apparently loses less of its scent and nutrients during refining, so it tends to feel more oily than soaps built mainly on surfactants.

So right after washing, that distinctive macadamia oil softness still lingers on your fingertips, and the red bean powder — ground from a grain instead of a chemical scrub — didn't feel artificially hard either, just gentle enough to smooth the texture.

Lather and scent

The lather builds up soft when it hits water, and the scent is a rich macadamia with a nutty walnut layered in — not sharp, more of a lingering, understated smell! Looking at the ingredient list, this doesn't feel like a soap chasing cleansing power alone — it's oil and grain powder working together for texture and scent!?

A little scent lingers even after rinsing, so it could work as a light layering scent instead of perfume.

Can you use it for morning face washing?

Originally, Receptor Perfumed Seed Soap is meant for body and hand washing or as a scent ritual, not as a face cleanser replacement — but I've been using it for morning face washing too.

After using it, even with my eyes open during cleansing, there was no stinging or sharpness — it felt soft and finished clean without any tightness, so it worked well for morning washing.

This is just my personal experience based on my own skin, so it might feel different depending on skin type. It felt refreshing in the morning and worked just as well as an evening ritual to close out the day, so it's a soap that suits any time of day.
