Lately, when I want a casual date or a really good meal in Yeonnam-dong, I end up craving a handmade burger. This time I visited Deombeogeo Hongdae Bonjeom (덤버거 홍대본점), near Yeontral Park. It's easy to reach from Hongik Univ. Station and the vibe is hip, so it works well as a Yeonnam-dong date spot for a meal and a café stop together.

Yeonnam-dong has lots of great streets for strolling, so it's a nice area to look for places around Yeontral Park and the Gyeongui Line Forest Park before or after eating. I was wandering around that day and came in for a hearty handmade burger, and it turned out to be a place that makes proper ones 🤍

Deombeogeo Bonjeom is at 244-1 Donggyo-ro, 2nd floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, around Yeontral Park in Yeonnam-dong, so it's easy to find from Hongik Univ. Station. It's open daily from 10:00 to 04:00 the next day. Takeout and group visits are possible, but there's no parking.

It's open until 4 a.m. the next day.. Isn't a burger the original hangover food? haha It sounds perfect as a Hongdae hangover burger spot too!?

There are plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby, so it would fit nicely into a Hongik Univ. Station date course.

What's the atmosphere and seating like at Deombeogeo Bonjeom?

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the yellow-toned interior. There's also a cute washbasin for washing your hands before and after eating. It seems they care about cleanliness, which gave the place a clean image and I liked that 👍

Overall it feels like a hip American burger joint, so photos come out quite pretty. Sunlight pours in through the windows, so it feels bright and warm if you visit during the day.

The seating ranges from window seats to regular tables, so it looked comfortable for a date for two or for eating alone.

So I thought it would be fine for anyone looking for a place to eat solo in Yeonnam-dong too.

Are the burgers really handmade? Open-kitchen cooking to order

Deombeogeo Bonjeom has an open kitchen, so you can watch burger patties being grilled and chicken being fried as soon as an order comes in. What impressed me most was that every single item clearly feels handmade.

Because the kitchen is open, you can see that both the patties and the chicken are grilled and fried only once an order comes in. They prepare everything from frying the chicken to the packaging themselves, and they develop their own sauces, so I could feel the care while eating.

It felt like a Yeonnam-dong burger where the ingredients and cooking process matter, not just fast food. When dining in, you can get your own drinks self-serve.

How does the Deombeogeo B.L.T cheeseburger taste?

At Deombeogeo Bonjeom we ordered the B.L.T cheeseburger set and a chicken burger.

Maybe because they're handmade, the sheer size of the burgers surprised me. This is what a handmade burger is!!

The B.L.T cheeseburger has bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, pickles and homemade sauce between brioche buns. The soft, faintly sweet brioche bun gets the salty flavor of bacon, and with the lettuce and tomato everything blends well and tastes great 👍

The cheese melds naturally with the patty for a rich, nutty taste, and the pickles keep things fresh along the way, so I never got tired of it 🤍 If you like the generous ingredient combos of handmade burgers, it's an easy one to enjoy.

How is the whole-thigh B.L.T chicken burger?

Next, the B.L.T chicken burger! Deombeogeo's B.L.T chicken burger has a chicken patty made from whole thigh meat, with bacon, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños and white homemade sauce.

The moment I saw it, I was shocked by the huge chicken patty! The quality puts most chicken burgers to shame 👍👍👍👍👍

Since it's a whole thigh patty, the texture was juicy and tender rather than dry, and the crispy fried chicken goes well with the salty bacon.

The jalapeños add a slightly sharp kick that cuts the richness. The white homemade sauce blends in smoothly, so it's a combination chicken burger fans should enjoy.

The texture of the thigh patty was more distinct than in an ordinary chicken burger, which made it memorable. I think it would suit anyone in Yeonnam-dong looking for chicken who wants a different take, a handmade chicken burger.

The fries were fried to order too, hot and crispy, and really good. The portion was quite big, so I recommend it as a good-value handmade burger place in Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong 🐥

Above all, I could feel the care put into the burgers, from cooking everything to order to developing their own sauces. In the daytime it's a bright place for a date or a solo meal, and since you can eat a hearty meal late at night, it's worth a look for anyone hunting for a late-night Hongdae spot. If you want a meal along with a Yeontral Park walk, or a burger place near the Gyeongui Line Forest Park or in Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong, it suits you well 👍
