Newborn heated humidifier safety and top filling: Sutimt

The hot, humid summer is over, and cool, dry autumn is now on its way 🍂 I already had a heated humidifier for the baby, but it was a product that had been surrounded by explosion issues last year, so I was wondering whether I should use it this year or not. That was when I got to try the safe Sutimt humidifier :)

What is a heated humidifier?

For homes with babies—especially newborns—temperature and humidity control is essential, so I prepared a heated humidifier when I gave birth. It works differently from ultrasonic and hybrid humidifiers.

• Heated: boils water to create steam
• Ultrasonic: uses ultrasonic vibrations to spray water as fine particles
• Hybrid: combines ultrasonic heating or other methods

I have used all three types of humidifier so far, and honestly, apart from safety concerns, heated humidifiers were the best. You might think, “Doesn’t a hybrid model heat up too, so wouldn’t it be good?” But because hybrid models do not raise the water to 100°C, they are lukewarm and closer to the ultrasonic method.

The downsides of ultrasonic and hybrid models are that bacteria and viruses in the water are not killed, minerals in the water evaporate and leave white powder on furniture or floors, and they need frequent cleaning.

The opposite of those downsides is exactly what makes heated models great! They are comparatively safer from bacteria and viruses, and there is no white powder, so they can be used more hygienically. Plus, with less bacterial growth, the cleaning interval is relatively longer :)

Also, baby heated humidifiers are usually run from autumn through winter, and I liked that they slightly raise the indoor temperature in winter, making the air warmer :)

Sutimt heated humidifier safety design

A newborn heated humidifier has so many benefits. But the one I had been using was the product that had been at the center of explosion(*) issues last year 😂 I received a replacement lid said to be improved afterward, but since it was an issue with the rice-cooker-style design itself, I still could not shake the uneasy feeling.

(*) In a sealed structure like a rice cooker, when internal pressure rises rapidly, a phenomenon called galheonjeon can occur, in which water spurts up as if exploding.

Then I got to try the Sutimt heated humidifier, which has a non-pressurized structure, so I felt reassured that it was safe from this kind of phenomenon 👏

Sutimt’s biggest advantage is that its eight mist outlets disperse pressure immediately and prevent pressure from building up, so there is no explosion risk 👍

Also, with baby heated humidifiers, you normally have to open the whole thing like a rice-cooker lid when refilling water, and water collected on the lid can drip down, which felt dangerous. Sutimt has a top-fill structure that lets you refill without opening the lid, so I felt reassured that refilling was not risky :)

And since this is a newborn heated humidifier, the most important thing is preventing safety issues such as burns. Its wide base keeps the center of gravity low, so it does not slip easily. Its double Safe Lock structure cannot be opened by a baby, so it could be used safely as a humidifier for the baby’s room :)

It even has a Steam Guard that prevents hot water from suddenly spurting out if it is knocked over or something unexpected happens! And with a built-in multi-sensor, it switches itself off when water is low or it overheats, which was another plus: even if I forgot to refill it, I could use it without worrying about overheating 👏

Using the 12-minute heating and automatic cleaning

It was unusual that Sutimt was not rice-cooker-shaped, but I was also intrigued because its interior was different from other products. As it turns out, rather than heating the entire water tank, it uses technology that heats the center of the steam tower, for faster humidification while saving energy. Other models take quite a while for the water to boil, but Sutimt boils in 12 minutes, which was great for raising the humidity quickly :)

Plus, Sutimt uses top-quality medical-grade SUS 316 material and has its polishing compound removed before shipping, reducing the hassle of cleaning it before first use.

It also has an automatic cleaning(*) mode, which made cleaning every 3–5 days easy! Minerals tend to settle in baby heated humidifiers as you use them, but it came out completely removed, so I only had to rinse it and use it again. So convenient 👍

And for use in the baby’s room, sleep mode and automatic humidity control are essential ✨ There is no worry about excessive humidity, and it blocks fan noise and lights, leaving only the gentle white noise of water boiling, so it was great for using after the baby had fallen asleep at night! Nothing is more annoying than a baby waking up from the light after finally falling asleep.. 😂

On top of that, Sutimt was so easy to use thanks to various user-friendly details, including a remote control and handle.

I had been using my old rice-cooker-style model anxiously because it felt wasteful to throw it away, but from now on, I think I can run Sutimt in the baby’s room with peace of mind.
