Haenon Miyeok in Gwacheon does seaweed soup properly.

We went to a great seaweed soup spot in Gwacheon for my wife, who has been feeling a little low on energy lately—and who also happens to love seaweed. Haenon Miyeok in Gwacheon.
Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch hours and menu
They are open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with a weekday break from 15:00 to 17:00. There is no break time on weekends. Sea urchin roe seaweed soup is ₩30,000, haesin seaweed soup is ₩29,000, Tongyeong oyster seaweed soup is ₩25,000, and dried pollack seaweed soup is ₩19,000. Haenon beef bulgogi is ₩30,000, while Wando butter-grilled abalone is ₩25,000.

At Korean restaurants in Gwacheon, there usually is not much parking, so parking stress starts before the meal.

Haenon Miyeok in Gwacheon has spacious, pleasant parking right in front of the restaurant, which was convenient. It is operated as a direct branch in Gwacheon, and since it opened in March, it seems to have settled in nicely now haha;;
A sepia-toned atmosphere and self-serve side-dish bar
The interior had a slightly unusual, panoramic-multiplex sort of atmosphere?? The lighting was soft rather than too strong, so it felt comfortable. If it had been full color, it might have been a little harder on the eyes, but this sepia tone was easy on them, which was nice haha. It seemed to show how Haenon Miyeok is made and where it comes from~

Personally, I like a self-serve bar at a good Korean restaurant in Gwacheon. I also liked that it was not packed with side dishes just to increase the number; they had only sides that went deliciously with seaweed soup. It is nice when there are lots of choices, but it feels wasteful when food gets thrown away, and I end up eating only what I like anyway, so too much can feel a little overwhelming ㅠㅠ
Ordering beef and flounder seaweed soup sets
Flounder and beef seaweed soup ordered!

The menu made me realize all over again that there could be this many kinds of seaweed soup in Gwacheon.

Usually I have beef seaweed soup, and the most adventurous I had gotten was adding clams, but there were more than 10 kinds of seaweed soup here. Still, we ordered two set meals: my favorite beef seaweed soup and flounder seaweed soup.

Since we ordered the seaweed soup sets, each came with a whole spicy seasoned flounder, and the side dishes were served in elegant glass bowls, making everything feel even more thoughtfully prepared.

The side dishes were not overly seasoned, so they were really good alongside the seaweed soup.

The kimchi in particular was tasty, so I refilled it with japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) about twice more!

The cockle muchim (spicy-sweet seasoned cockles) was addictive too, so I went back for another helping of that as well haha.

Deep, rich beef seaweed soup
Our beef and flounder seaweed soups arrived! With a whole spread laid out so generously, it really felt like we had come to a great Korean restaurant in Gwacheon.

This is the beef seaweed soup I ordered in Gwacheon. The broth looks wonderfully deep and rich, right??

They do not simply ladle out soup that has already been simmered at the restaurant; they make it once the order comes in, so that seemed like no ordinary amount of care either ;;

With rich broth, generous ingredients, and loads of beef, just drinking down one bowl of seaweed soup left me completely full.

Refreshing flounder seaweed soup and free extra rice
My wife kept eating the flounder seaweed soup she ordered, saying it was very tasty too.

She loves seafood, and the cool, refreshing seafood flavor was lovely with flounder in the rich seaweed broth.

When you have no appetite, mixing a bowl of rice into seaweed soup and taking a spoonful with nicely fermented kimchi makes finishing a whole earthenware bowl happen in no time.

It is good enough to eat every day—and is seaweed bad for you?? Absolutely not. It clears the blood and helps with dieting and gut health, so it is fine to eat every day haha. If you have a big appetite, extra bowls of rice are free during your meal. Sipping the broth with rice, we polished off two bowls in no time >_<

After visiting this great Gwacheon lunch spot, the parking area outside was packed with cars. Going right when they opened was a genius move ^^
