Gwanggyojungang Station hair salon: basic-tier root touch-up, Yuwolae

In short

Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch is a hair salon on the 8th floor of the SK View Lake Tower office building (Eommu-dong) near Gwanggyojungang Station in Suwon. The writer came after work to cover 5 months of root regrowth and gray hairs, picked the cheapest basic dye, and still got a root touch-up with Shiseido dye plus a hair-stabilizing shampoo and alkaline remover treatment. Verdict: with prices posted at the entrance and a glossy finish, Yuwolae Mijangwon is an easy, budget-friendly choice for a root touch-up in Gwanggyo.

Today I visited Yuwolae Mijangwon (유월애미장원) Suwon Gwanggyo Branch, near Gwanggyojungang Station. You know that really tall building in Gwanggyo, the one with the Starbucks? It's that building!

  • Hours: daily 10:00 - 20:00
  • Location: 8th floor, office building (Eommu-dong) of SK View Lake Tower
  • Parking: Gate 1, basement levels 3-4

Where do you park at Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch?

Parking information for SK View Lake Tower

Enter SK View Lake Tower through Gate 1 and park on basement level 3 or 4. The garage is huge and well built, but it's shared with the officetel (studio apartment) residences, so you need to find your way in carefully! What to remember: Gate 1 entrance + B3 or B4!

The garage is so big that I got a little lost on the way down, sob. But there are so many spaces that parking was easy! The photo is... just a rough shot so I'd remember where I parked, haha. I arrived right on time, so I had no spare minutes, ㅠ

How to take the elevator from the basement to the 8th floor

From the basement garage of SK View Lake Tower, take the elevator marked 'office facilities' and you can reach the 8th floor, where Yuwolae is, in one go. I took the elevator I saw in the basement, but none went up to the upper floors... so I got off at the 1st floor, took the low-rise elevator and went up again! Then on the way down I realized the office-facilities elevator takes you there in one ride, hahaha. Ugh, so hard!

As soon as I got out on the 8th floor, I saw a sign.

Head straight to the right and you'll see the salon!!

Does Yuwolae Mijangwon post its prices?

Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch openly displays its treatment prices right at the entrance. At a lot of salons the price list isn't clear, so you get a shock at the register, right? But Yuwolae shows prices up front, so I walked in with confidence~ And the prices don't seem that expensive either!!

My last dye job was 5 months ago... so my roots were urgent!! You know how a proper root touch-up alone makes your hair look so much neater, right?

Waiting area and atmosphere at Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch

The waiting area at Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch is classy like a café, and there's a puppy inside the salon. I got there a bit before my appointment and sat in the front waiting area, and the vibe is... so upscale and pretty!! Anyone would think you'd walked into a café!

While I was sitting there waiting, a puppy suddenly came trotting over from somewhere and flopped down to show me its belly ㅠㅜ Who are you?! ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I gave it belly rubs for ages before getting up... Just from that one puppy I thought, okay, this place passes!! haha

They stored my belongings separately in a locker and put the key in my gown pocket.

But wait, is this place newly opened? The salon is really big and really, really clean!! Maybe the cleanest salon I've been to lately? The view looking down from the high ceiling is great too.

The shampoo area also has lots of seats, so you can wash your hair right away without waiting!!

How does root dye work at Yuwolae Mijangwon?

Treatment seat before the dye begins

At Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch, before the root dye they sprayed a scalp protector on me as soon as I sat down! I think it's my first time having a protector applied for dyeing, and oh! Thinking back, my scalp really didn't hurt while the dye was processing! Interesting...

I really hate getting dye on my skin... luckily they put ear covers on me too.

The puppy keeps begging to be put on my lap~~ 🎀 When I didn't pick it up, it got all sulky...

Anyway!! This is my before hair... I also have a lot of gray hair ㅜㅠ so with the grown-out roots and grays it looked really patchy and messy..

Even the basic dye is Shiseido dye

You can choose from three dye tiers at Yuwolae: basic / mid / premium, and I just went with basic!! Two staff members applied it from both sides, swish swish swish, and finished the dye job really fast.

Even though I chose the cheapest basic dye, they used Shiseido's premium dye on me!! The product quality is good, so I worried less about hair damage, and I got a dye job I was really happy with for the price.

They let it process for about 30 minutes~

Shampoo area for washing after dyeing

Hair-stabilizing shampoo and alkaline remover

They said Yuwolae uses a hair-stabilizing shampoo after dyeing instead of regular shampoo! They explained it while shampooing me: our hair is bound to be stressed whatever we do, but a hair-stabilizing shampoo is a care product that tidies the scalp environment, helps reduce hair loss, and eases things like damage, itchiness and dandruff!!

Apparently ordinary salons hardly ever use hair-stabilizing shampoo, but Yuwolae uses it even on customers who only get a cut!! I was impressed that they care about the hair and scalp after dyeing, and my hair felt much calmer after the treatment, so I was happy ❤️

I rinsed everything out and came back to my seat! They explained they used a remover product that strips out alkaline components while washing, and sure enough, that's why my hair was so silky.

What is alkaline? After a perm or dye, an alkaline component stays in your hair, which is why it quickly gets frizzy and damaged. Removing it with a remover can help prevent hair damage, they said.

When this is over... I'm going home... and they styled my hair so, so carefully, thank you so much ㅠㅠㅠ

Ta-da!! Root dye done~~

Glossy finished hair after root dye

Look at how glossy my hair is after the root dye at Yuwolae.. It feels like I barely did anything, yet thanks to the good shampoo and products, anyone would think I'd had a hair clinic treatment.

The puppy, worn out because nobody played with it during my treatment.. haha

These are the products Yuwolae uses! I don't know much about them... but if they show them off this confidently, you can tell they use good stuff, right?

Hair the day after root dye

My hair the day after the root dye

The day after my root dye at Yuwolae, the improved texture and neatness were still obvious!! It's been raining a lot lately, which made my hair super frizzy and messy-looking and that really bothered me, but since the salon visit that worry has eased, so I'm happy!!

Is it a good hair salon for root dye in Gwanggyo?

It was my first visit to Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch, so I went half worried, half excited! But I was so, so happy with the treatment. Root dye, dye, perms, cuts and more: if you're looking for a good salon in Gwanggyo, I recommend Yuwolae~~

The designer who treated me said she officially starts full duties on August 1, so her name might change. She was so kind from start to finish and explained everything carefully, which I loved. I visited after work, and it seemed like her own finishing time had passed.. yet she put her whole heart into my treatment, thank you so much.
