Why Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch is an easy meeting spot near Hapjeong Station
Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch is a fried chicken bar that's easy to get to from Hapjeong Station. My friends and I were meeting up in Hapjeong and looking for somewhere to have dinner with a light drink, so we checked it out 🐔

There are so many good restaurants in Hapjeong these days that I was torn on where to go, but I heard this place serves fried chicken alongside some pretty unusual menu items, so I was curious.
It's easy to reach from Hapjeong Station, so it worked well as a meetup spot, and honestly the vibe was exactly my style 🔫💛
So while it's great for hanging out with friends, I also think it'd work well for anyone looking for a blind date spot near Hapjeong Station haha

Inside Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch: the basement room and the hourglass

As soon as the morning glory fried chicken arrives, they flip an hourglass, and once the sand runs out, you're supposed to eat the scorched rice crust underneath. Such a thoughtful little touch 🥹

What does the ₩26,500 morning glory whole fried chicken taste like?
After a short wait, the morning glory fried chicken came out right away! There's a reason it's the signature at Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch ~~ ✨ The visual alone was stunning.

It looked pretty appetizing from the get-go. A golden-brown fried chicken piled high with green stir-fried morning glory on top gave off a totally different vibe from regular fried chicken. The chicken skin was fried a nice golden color, and with the morning glory on top, the colors looked really pretty too 💚 How did they even come up with putting morning glory on fried chicken... I ate it in total awe haha.

The chicken was juicier and more tender than expected. They said it's marinated and brined with a secret method before frying, and it definitely didn't have any dryness — the meat pulled apart soft. Eating it together with the savory stir-fried morning glory, the light, clean chicken taste got this salty sauce-like flavor from the morning glory that kept me reaching for more. Eating just the chicken alone might've been a bit plain, but with the morning glory on top, the flavor really came alive! At first I wondered if morning glory would even go with fried chicken, but tasting it, I was surprised at how perfect the combo actually was 🤤

Sweet-and-sour Sichuan-style bibim noodles (₩9,000) on the side
The sweet-and-sour Sichuan-style bibim noodles (mixed noodles) had the special sauce tossed so well into the noodles that it looked sweet and tangy just from the sight of it 〰️ The noodles were nice and chewy, and the first thing I tasted from the sauce was that sweet-and-tangy flavor. A subtle spiciness came through afterward too, which really woke up my appetite 🥹 It was especially amazing eating a bite of the morning glory fried chicken alongside the bibim noodles — the tangy sauce of the noodles seemed to reset the clean, savory taste of the chicken, so I kept going back and forth between the two 😊 If two people are visiting, I'd recommend ordering one chicken and one side dish to try a variety.

A meal like this can't be complete without Tsingtao ~~ ❤️ So we ordered it right away 🍻🍻

My favorite kind of fries 🥔🤍🤍 The combo of the powder sprinkled on top with the fries was exactly my type of combo 🥹🥹 Just the right amount of spicy, absolutely perfect as a beer snack! ✨

The meat was super tender, and dipping it in the sauce too was just next level.. 💚 My friends and I were seriously in awe while eating.
Scraping the scorched rice crust under the chicken

Under the golden-fried chicken came a crispy, scorched rice crust, and just the look of it gave off a nutty aroma right away! The chicken itself was juicy and tender, but eating the crispy rice crust alongside it gave a much better texture than eating the chicken alone. I scraped up every last bit of the rice crust ,, 🤍 There's real fun in eating the chicken and then finishing off with the crispy rice crust at the end, so I highly recommend the morning glory fried chicken 👍🏻

Felt like something was missing so we ordered a Sprite too. Chicken and soda, what a combo ~~

What comes on the ₩8,000 mala cup ramen?
This one's exactly like its name — cup noodle style! It's Sarigomtang noodles with special mala sauce added, topped with bean sprouts, beef brisket, bok choy, and wood ear mushrooms — the toppings were more generous than I expected haha.

The mild base flavor of the sarigomtang noodles combined with the distinct numbing mala aroma made it great as a drinking snack. The broth was so good that I kept scooping it up, not gonna lie ><
Dinner and drinks in one stop in Hapjeong
Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch is a great place to visit when you want something a bit different from the usual meat restaurants or izakayas in Hapjeong while still having a drink ✨ The atmosphere is good for conversation too, so it seems like a nice spot for a blind date or date near Hapjeong Station! If you're like me and want to handle dinner and drinks in one stop in Hapjeong, Hogye Hapjeong Main Branch is worth checking out as a Hapjeong Station bar. There's a good variety on the menu, so it's great for a group to share, and if you love fried chicken, I especially recommend the morning glory fried chicken 🙂↕️ Next time I make plans in Hapjeong, I think I'll come back to try the other menu items too 😊
