Gamjatang restaurant near Sejong's Fire Agency at opening: Chungsilok

In short

Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk (충실옥) Cheotmaeul main branch is a pork bone hangover soup and gamjatang (pork bone and potato stew) restaurant on Hannuri-daero in Naseong-dong, Sejong, across from the National Fire Agency and the National Tax Service. On a weekday visit at about 10:40, just after opening, the gamjatang came with about 6 large bones and a mountain of potato, sujebi (hand-torn dough) and glass noodles, and the moist meat slid right off the bone. With generous portions, tasty kimchi and kkakdugi, and clean burners, Chungsilok is a Sejong gamjatang restaurant that gets the basics right.

Neighbors, do you like pork bone hangover soup or gamjatang (pork bone and potato stew)?! I do! The gamjatang I had after a long time was so good that I'm going to write about it with lots of excitement.

Is it because I hadn't had gamjatang in a while?! Or because Chungsilok makes it so well? The meat was so tender and really delicious. Here goes my review of Chungsilok, a Sejong gamjatang spot right in front of the Fire Agency.

Chungsilok sits right on the main road, Hannuri-daero, so it's easy to find, and the underground garage goes down to B3, so there's plenty of room for your car.

How long is the lunch wait at Chungsilok in Naseong-dong?

Chungsilok in Naseong-dong is in front of the Fire Agency and the National Tax Service, so lunchtime is really hot. That's why there's a waiting tablet and waiting seats. At lunch, lots of people order the pork bone hangover soup rather than the gamjatang you boil at the table, so tables seemed to turn over quickly.

I went right when it opened, around 10:40. And there were already about 4 groups seated!

I took photos mostly in the direction where no customers were sitting, but the actual restaurant is bigger than it looks.

Smart order at every table

Chungsilok has a smart order device at every table. The menu has photos, which makes choosing much easier, and the food comes out just like the menu pictures, so there's no need to doubt it.

How are the kimchi and kkakdugi at Chungsilok?

At Chungsilok, a great Naseong-dong hangover soup spot, the kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) are really good. The rice came out before the main dish, and it's a rice thief (so good with rice you keep eating it). I almost finished all the rice! The kimchi was really delicious. If you run out, please use the self-service corner :)

How generous is the gamjatang at Chungsilok?

Chungsilok's gamjatang came piled up like a mountain, with about 6 big bones plus potato, sujebi and glass noodle add-ons. The gamjatang arrived with the idea behind the name Chungsilok, which means staying true to the basics.

Stay true to the basics and it tastes good :) -Chungsilok-

Chungsilok gamjatang piled up like a mountain

I ordered gamjatang for the first time in a while and it came piled up like a mountain. Perilla leaves, seasoning sauce, kimchi... this combo is delicious whenever you eat it, right?

The meat inside comes already cooked, so you can eat it first, while the potato, sujebi and glass noodles need a bit of cooking, so the staff boils them for you. The pot is really packed.

The point of Chungsilok's gamjatang is the creamy white meat

There were about 6 big bones, and the meat came off so easily that I thought, "Ah, Chungsilok, the Naseong-dong favorite, really does gamjatang well!" haha

Heaping rice and clean burners

And the rice at Chungsilok is packed in so high. I ended up leaving some. There's really a lot of rice. But the truly amazing thing: aren't the burners at gamjatang places a bit dirty? Chungsilok has been open quite a while, yet the burner was clean, which surprised me.

I pick up a piece of tender, easily separated meat and some perilla leaf kimchi in one go with my chopsticks. It'll fit in one bite. Mmm~~ really delicious.

What is the meat texture of Chungsilok's gamjatang like?

The lean meat in Chungsilok's gamjatang was creamy white and moist, like eating canned tuna. Can you feel how tender the meat is??? Can you feel how moist it is???

Has the inner meat of gamjatang always been this moist? As far as I remember, it wasn't this much, but today's gamjatang meat was so white and moist, like eating canned tuna!!

How do you eat the add-ons in Chungsilok's gamjatang?

At Chungsilok, you eat the bone meat first, then go on to the glass noodles, potato and sujebi add-ons. It's so tasty that I think even our youngest could eat it. If I hadn't been full, I would have added ramyeon noodles too. The broth is really good.

The glass noodles are hot, so be careful when eating them. You can burn your mouth, haha. The sujebi add-on also comes heaped full, and it melts in your mouth.

Is Chungsilok in Sejong worth going back to?

Chungsilok was busy from the moment it opened, and I think it really is a great restaurant. Takeout orders kept coming in too, and delivery riders kept stopping by.

Chungsilok, true to the basics, I think this much earns it the title of a signature Sejong restaurant.
