I wanted to make a special memory this weekend, so I went to Ring Plus Uijeongbu Branch (반지더하기 의정부점), a ring workshop in Uijeongbu. Honestly, when I first walked in the air conditioning felt a bit strong and I wondered if I'd be cold. But once I put on the work apron and got absorbed in grinding the ring surface, I heated up and started sweating, haha. Thanks to the owner's consideration, I could work comfortably.

How do you choose a couple ring design?

At Ring Plus Uijeongbu Branch, once you sit in the private room the owner brings boxes of sample rings in many designs, and you can try them on to choose. We put on aprons and sat at the table in a cozy room where we could focus entirely on each other. There were so many options that we spent a long time deciding which rings suited each other's hands.

After much thought, we chose MATI (마티), which has a clean yet unique charm. Its surface has natural scratches and a distinctive texture, so I think we won't get tired of wearing it every day, and it should go with both casual and formal outfits. I loved it!

How does the couple ring making process work?

After measuring your size with a ring gauge, the owner bends the silver and solders it into a ring shape to match your size and design. We mostly focused on sanding and polishing the rough surface. Placing the ring on a support and rubbing it with the rotating sanding machine, then watching it get smoother and smoother, was insanely satisfying.

Making each other's rings made us more nervous

Since we decided to make each other's rings, I think we were even more nervous. My boyfriend next to me was concentrating with wide eyes, and it was both funny and cute. Luckily, the owner kept checking on our progress, and in the final finishing stage steps in with an expert touch to perform a perfect "CPR" on the ring, so there's really no chance of failing.

How were the engraving and the finished rings?

When I slipped the finished ring on, it was prettier than I expected, and its high-quality texture made my fingers look neat. Maybe because I made it with my own hands, I get attached every time I look at it, and I still feel proud.

The owner also captured us working hard with a camera. Having the moment of making our couple rings recorded with an analog feel doubled the emotion. Receiving the ring beautifully packed in a case side by side with the polaroid printed on the spot was so satisfying.
