Paju Book City dumpling restaurant, free drink for a 1-minute survey
In short
Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a Pyeongyang-style dumpling restaurant in Paju Book City, Gyeonggi, a five-minute drive from Paju Lotte Outlet and set among the cafés in front of Dirty Trunk. On a weekday visit at 2:30pm the house was full, and the meal was Pyeongyang mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) at 12,000 won, Pyeongyang mandu-guk (dumpling soup) at 11,000 won and a half plate of arongsatae suyuk (boiled beef shank) at 17,000 won, plus a free drink for filling in a 1-minute survey. Between the mild Korean beef broth and the self-serve dessert zone with five kinds of old-fashioned snacks and icy misugaru, Bubyeokjeong is worth a return trip with older family members.

One day a super clean-looking building popped up in the café village near Dirty Trunk, on the way to the outlet. This place is too fancy?? Oh, it's Bubyeokjeong, a Pyeongyang mandu (dumpling) specialty restaurant.
Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu Paju Book City Heyri Village Unjeong Ilsan branch / Daily 11:00-21:00 / 🚗 Parking available
The exterior and name are so simple, but wow, how long is the rest of the name lol. This Bubyeokjeong covers Ilsan, Paju Outlet, Paju Book City, and Heyri Village all at once 😁

Parking at Bubyeokjeong: free when you eat
The parking lot spans two levels and is free once you order food. Entrance and exit are different, so check ✅
Inside Bubyeokjeong: the dining room and the dumpling-folding station
Stepping inside — the exterior was simple and nice, but the interior is even more simple and clean, so pretty 👍 Right by the entrance, mandu hot pot meal kits are neatly packaged and on sale!

It was around 2:30pm on a weekday, a bit past lunch rush, and I was shocked at how many people were there! 👀 Almost every seat was full! Must be vacation season plus being 5 minutes from Lotte Outlet ⭐️ There's a big window wall facing greenery outside, giving the space an open, cool feeling 🌳

The dumpling-making space has glass walls so customers can watch — instant trust boost!! 👏 Even the self-serve bar and baby chairs keep the same white, tidy look.

Mul-makguksu, mandu soup and a half plate of arongsatae suyuk
After ordering via the table tablet, side dishes soon arrived: kimchi, white kimchi, and yuja (citron)-scented pickled radish.

The dishes come out in white ceramic bowls, and they all look appetizing and neat 👍
Pyeongyang mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle soup) ₩12,000 / Pyeongyang mandu soup ₩11,000 / Arong sataeng suyuk (boiled beef shank) half plate ₩17,000

This is truly mild, 100% authentic Pyeongyang-style makguksu with Korean beef broth. It might taste bland at first, but as you savor the beef broth, it's genuinely addictive ⭐️ The Pyeongyang mandu soup is also mild and clean-tasting, with a strong tofu flavor like homemade — light on the stomach and healthy tasting ⭐️

This arong sataeng (beef shank) is a real hidden gem 👍👍 highly recommend! The tender meat dipped in the sauce disappears before you even notice you're chewing lol. The pairing with the makguksu is amazing 👏 And it's cheap too!😍
How the 1-minute survey gets you a free drink
Doing Bubyeokjeong's quick 1-minute survey on your phone gets you a free drink of your choice — such a nice bonus!✌️

They could pack the space with tables, but I love that they left this entrance area with breathing room 💛

There's a friendly guide showing how they pack takeout orders! ⭐️ So neat! I'll have to come back and take some home for the kids...

The dessert zone: five old-fashioned snacks and icy misugaru
After paying, I noticed people lined up at the far end?!! What's going on — this is Bubyeokjeong's signature move! The dessert zone ✅

Not just one kind but five kinds of old-fashioned snacks piled generously in big containers, and you can help yourself into a paper cup as much as you want (no one's watching lol). This line here is for the amazing misutgaru (roasted grain drink)! ⭐️

Did they always have a machine like this? 👀 So cool! When you open the lid, icy misutgaru with floating ice bits swirls around! And wow, the taste is the real deal! Rich, made with several grains — I'd been craving this and ended up drinking two cups 🤣 My mom and the other elders loved it too, and I have to give props to whoever thought of icy misutgaru for hot summer 👏👏👏 The food is great, but I already know I need to bring my dad here just for the dessert zone lol!

Quieter after 3pm: why Bubyeokjeong suits a Paju Lotte Outlet day
After 3pm the crowd thins out a bit, so I took some photos! The entrance area for waiting and enjoying dessert while seated is also nice ⭐️

I have a feeling this place will become known as a top spot near Paju Lotte Outlet, since it's on the way to the outlet, Heyri, and Book City — great location, spacious and clean, has parking, and the food is neat, tasty, and reasonably priced. That's basically the whole package! If you like the taste of Pyeongyang cuisine, I highly recommend a visit ⭐️
