How are the parking and the atmosphere?
There's a big parking lot in front of the restaurant, so parking was zero stress! The inside is also much roomier and more pleasant than I expected. With that much space, I think it would work well for family gatherings and company dinners too.
The front windows are opened up, which gives the place a nice airy feel. On a nice day, sitting by the window would be lovely.
Ventilation is good too. Even though it's charcoal grilling, the room wasn't filled with smoke and the smell barely stuck to my clothes, which I really liked.
How much eel for 3 people? Eel extract before the meal

Three of us went, and we ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel plus 1kg of extra eel, 2kg in total. (Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel charges a separate table setting fee of ₩3,000 per person.)

After we ordered, the basic side dishes were set out and each of us was given an eel extract drink.

I was told it's good to drink before the meal, so I tried it. The extract was rich, and I felt healthier even before I'd started on the grilled eel.
Free eel soup and bokbunja salt
At Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, eel (loach) soup comes free when you order grilled eel. Here's the eel we ordered.

Before getting properly into the eel, I took a spoonful of the eel (loach) soup that comes as standard. They say it's slow-simmered in-house with loach included. Maybe that's why the broth was really thick and rich.
I added a bowl of rice right away and put it into the broth, and it warmed me up from the inside.

They said 1kg of eel comes out to 550g–600g once the bones, head, innards and blood are removed.

After putting the eel on the charcoal, the staff sprinkled salt on it and explained that it wasn't ordinary salt but salt made with bokbunja (Korean black raspberry). Seeing that they care even about the salt made me look forward to it even more.

Do the staff grill the eel for you?
Yes, at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel the staff grill the eel for you, so we could just relax and eat. We went before the lunch rush and it wasn't crowded, so they grilled it golden brown from start to finish, and it was really delicious.

Fragrant angelica wraps and the side dish bar
The side dishes here were all good, every single one.

If you run out of a side dish, just help yourself at the self-service bar. Besides the standard wraps and sides, they also had cabbage and angelica (danggwi) leaves ready.
I'd mostly eaten eel wrapped in perilla leaves, but wrapped in angelica it was slightly bitter with a distinctive aroma, and it cut right through the richness of the eel, so I could keep eating without getting tired of it.

I tried all sorts of combinations, like seasoned chives, white kimchi and pickled perilla leaves, and they were all good.

Review event giant prawns, plus grilled mushrooms and rice cakes
When I visited, Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel was running an event giving free "giant grilled prawns" for writing a Naver visitor review, so I joined right away. They gave us a generous six big prawns.
After finishing the eel, when the charcoal had mellowed a bit, they grilled the prawns over the gentle heat. We also grilled the king oyster mushrooms and rice cakes that came with them. The chewy mushrooms and crispy rice cakes made grilling them really fun.

I was curious about the grilled abalone on the menu, and they told me these days they do it as butter-grilled abalone and it's hugely popular. I'll have to bring my son, who loves butter-grilled abalone, here soon.

Eel BBQ for a family gathering in Amsa: how is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel?
I used to go all the way to Misa for eel every time, but now that I've found a great eel place near home, I think I'll be coming to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel in Amsa often.
Three of us, 2kg of eel, eel soup, and the prawns, king oyster mushrooms and grilled rice cakes they gave us as extras!! It felt like the first time in ages that I'd eaten myself full and restored my energy.
The place is spacious and pleasant, so I'm planning to hold our next family gathering here. If you're looking for a good eel BBQ spot or a place for a family meal near Amsa-dong or Amsa Station, do visit Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌 풍천장어 직판장) once.
