Seokchon aged beef BBQ, crispy-juicy cubed rib: Sutbul Seonghwa
In short
Sutbul Seonghwa (숯불성화) is an aged beef Korean BBQ restaurant on Songnidan-gil near Seokchon Station in Songpa, Seoul. At Sutbul Seonghwa, the blogger grilled the 400g Seonghwa Platter (69,000 won) of snowflake beef, cubed flower rib and wine-marinated rib finger meat over Chungju oak charcoal, then ordered spicy snowflake beef jjapaguri (Chapagetti-Neoguri noodles) for dessert. With a black-toned interior, private rooms and plenty of side dishes, Sutbul Seonghwa is worth recommending for a stylish beef dinner in Seoul.

A great food spot on Songnidan-gil near Seokchon Station: Sutbul Seonghwa (숯불성화).
Sutbul Seonghwa on Songnidan-gil near Seokchon Station is an aged beef restaurant whose name means "a sacred fire that never stops burning." It feels less like a plain restaurant and more like a luxurious Jamsil-area beef place where quality meat, refined fire, top-shelf drinks and the space all come together!

Sutbul Seonghwa interior and private rooms

The moment I walked in, there was none of the smoke or smell you get at a typical BBQ place. A dim, stylish black interior with soft gold lighting made it feel like a high-end bar or a fine dining restaurant..!

There are also private rooms at the back, which looked perfect for anniversary dates, blind dates, formal business meetings or group dinners, haha.
Sutbul Seonghwa menu and prices: what did we order?

We ordered the Seonghwa Platter (400g, ₩69,000), the signature good-value set that lets you try snowflake beef (nunkkotsal), cubed flower rib (kkakttuk kkotgalbisal) and wine-marinated rib finger meat all at once. Looking at the classy menu, it's a top-end aged beef place that sells only the key cuts.
We also ordered spicy snowflake beef jjapaguri (jjapaguri is Chapagetti and Neoguri instant noodles mixed together) as a side meal to go with the beef. For a premium beef restaurant near Gangnam or Jamsil, the prices felt quite reasonable, so it's easy to enjoy without worrying about the bill.
Sutbul Seonghwa side dishes and dipping sauces

The table setting came with a nice variety of side dishes that go well with beef: crunchy, tangy scallion salad, pickled myeongi greens (wild garlic-like leaves), clean white kimchi and icy radish salad. It was all laid out before the meat arrived ~
There are also a zesty shiitake wasabi sauce, Maldon salt and whole-grain mustard, so you can customize every bite with a new combination.
Grilled over Chungju oak charcoal

The charcoal in the grill is top-grade oak charcoal traditionally made in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, they said. Grilling over this clean, good fire lets a faint charcoal aroma soak right into the surface, and the beef flavor was really great.
How did the three cuts in the 400g Seonghwa Platter taste?

And now the highlight, the 400g Seonghwa Platter arrives 〰️ It's a generous set where you can enjoy three top-grade beef rib cuts with harmonious marbling, each with its own charm.

Melt-in-your-mouth snowflake beef
The snowflake beef, the first thing we put on the grill, lived up to its name, with dense white snowflake marbling all over the surface.

I seared just the outside quickly over the strong charcoal heat, and one bite was so juicy I didn't even need to chew; it melted softly away in my mouth T_T

Eating the snowflake beef with crunchy radish salad, shiitake wasabi and whole-grain mustard was really delicious, without any greasiness at all.

Cubed flower rib: crispy outside, juicy inside
The cubed flower rib comes out cut into thick cubes, which is ideal for locking in the juices while grilling. Rolling it over the charcoal on all four sides gave the textbook "geotbasokchok" (crispy outside, moist inside) ❤️

With every bite, juices and flavor burst out of the thick meat, so it was really good with just Maldon salt or a little dab of wasabi.

You know the liquid that pools in a grilled button mushroom is basically a health tonic, right? ^^

Cut up like this, the button mushroom looks kind of like eel(?), lol

Subtly flavored wine-marinated rib finger meat
The last cut in the platter is the rib finger meat marinated in a special wine sauce. It isn't artificial or sickly sweet; a gentle sweetness had been aged softly into the meat.

Wrapped with crunchy, tangy scallion salad, it's addictive and keeps going down even when you're full..!
What is spicy snowflake beef jjapaguri?

Sutbul Seonghwa's spicy snowflake beef jjapaguri is a side dish of thick, spicy jjapaguri cooked down until rich and sticky, topped with generous thick slices of precious snowflake beef. We ordered it as a post-meal treat after grilling the beef, and even as a side, the looks and quality were on par with a proper high-end dish, haha.
Putting sweet marinated snowflake beef on the jjapaguri and taking a bite is truly the best..❤️ It's spicy so it isn't greasy, and you just keep eating, lol
Final verdict on Sutbul Seonghwa in Seokchon
Sutbul Seonghwa was a premium Jamsil-area beef restaurant with good meat and flawless service. Besides the varied charms of each beef cut, the neat and varied side dishes were perfect too!
The atmosphere was so good that I thought I have to come back next time to try whisky or wine pairings with the beef, haha. If you're looking for a beef dinner with great atmosphere and reliable quality near Jamsil or Seokchon Station, I strongly recommend visiting ~
