Tonkatsu in Pangyo after an engagement family meeting: Katsu Shokudo

Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of Alpha Dome Tower 3 on Pangyoyeok-ro in Pangyo, Seongnam. Still full from a lunch where both families met before the wedding, the writer and her boyfriend ordered mozzarella cheese katsu and kimchi katsu nabe (pork cutlet in a spicy kimchi hot pot) for dinner. They loved the cheese katsu, thick in both cheese and meat, and the spicy nabe broth soaked into rice. Verdict: Katsu Shokudo's tonkatsu is so good you'll find room for it even when you're full.

Balsan Station pub for a 5pm Hanwoo daechang nakgopsae date: Gungmin

On a date with her boyfriend around 5pm, the writer ordered a medium Hanwoo daechang nakgopsae (with Korean beef large intestine), fried rice and steamed egg, and was impressed by the plump octopus and shrimp, the daechang with no off-odor and the rich, savory broth. The verdict: Hanwoo daechang nakgopsae with fried rice is the must-order combination at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch.

Magongnaru pasta date: garlic butter risotto + pepperoni, Pasta Go

Pasta Go Magok Branch is a budget pasta and mini pizza restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building near Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. On a date, a couple shared two solo pasta sets at Pasta Go: garlic butter risotto with a mini pepperoni pizza, and Bapongswi pasta with a mini gorgonzola pizza, each with a Coke Zero. Korean BBQ in Magok, Seoul: chewy special pork neck cut, Tamra Factory

Tamra Factory Magok Direct Store (탐라팩토리 마곡직영점) is a fresh Jeju pork barbecue restaurant on the first floor of Magok Inmass in Magok, Gangseo, Seoul. Two diners booked for 5:30 pm on a weekday and shared the Tamra Hanpan, a platter of 600g or more of pork neck, pork belly and pork skirt. The pre-grilled meat, the chewy special pork neck cut (jjolgitsal) and the pairing of meljeot (salted anchovy dip), scallion kimchi and pickled wild garlic leaves stood out. Tamra Factory is worth booking for anyone who misses the taste of Jeju pork, whether for a date or a team dinner near Magok and Balsan Station.
