Namwirye shabu-shabu buffet: rainy couple lunch, wrap takeout, Dadam

Today my husband (Ppiyaki's dad) and I went out for a tasty meal, just the two of us! We went to Dadam Shabu Shabu & Wolnamssam Wirye Branch (다담샤브샤브&월남쌈 위례점), a favorite near Namwirye Station!

It had been pouring since morning. On a day like this I wanted something warm, clean and easy on the stomach, just the right meal! So Ppiyaki's dad and I hopped in the car and off we went 🚗🚗🚗🚗

A self-serve buffet for both shabu-shabu and wraps

Park in the basement lot of G&G Plaza and head up to the 3rd floor to find Dadam Wirye Branch. It is a self-serve, all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu (hot pot where you swish thin meat and veggies in broth) place with top-grade vegetables picked at Garak Market, Vietnamese-style wraps (wolnamssam), top-quality beef and a cafeteria, all in one spot.

The whole place is clean and well organized, with sofa seats and window seats. It suits family get-togethers, group gatherings and dates.

The staff does the basic table setting. When you order, they check your head count, and then you serve yourself.

How do you pick a broth? Two kinds in a split pot

Dadam Wirye Branch is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu and wrap buffet, and after the head count you choose your broth. There are three: clear, spicy (about as hot as Shin Ramyun) and seafood. You get a split pot, so pick two and order!

They set it up right away a moment later.

A self-bar with 40-plus vegetables from Garak Market

The self-bar is packed with fresh vegetables! The owner has worked for 20 years as a vegetable wholesaler at Garak Market, and he bids at the auction himself and picks only the freshest produce for guests. More than 40 kinds of vegetables are brought in from Garak Market every day. You can see the freshness with your own eyes!

Dumplings, rice cakes with sweet potato, rice cakes with cheese, fish cakes, everything you can put in shabu-shabu is gathered in one place. Anyone can see how fresh it all is ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Refill your own broth

Refill broth is available too. If you run low, just carry some over yourself, use it, and put the container back in its place!

Make your own wraps

The vegetables for the all-you-can-eat wraps look super fresh too! You pile various fillings onto rice paper and roll them up 😋😋😋😋

Beef brisket (usamgyeop) and chuck (umokshim)! At Dadam Wirye Branch you can eat top-grade beef all-you-can-eat, so easily. Not just vegetables, meat too 😲😲😲😲 For anyone who loves Korean food, no misses and no regrets 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Sauces: soy, peanut and chili

There's soy sauce for dipping your shabu-shabu! You can have it plain, and there are Cheongyang chilies (hot green chilies) too, so you can make a spicy soy sauce. Then there's peanut sauce and chili sauce for dipping the wraps. Don't be greedy, just take as much as you'll eat! 🤭🤭🤭🤭

₩17,900 weekday lunch: how are the spicy and clear broths?

This day we had lunch (middle schoolers and up) at ₩17,900 × 2 people. Lunch is available on weekdays from 11:00 to 16:00. Our broths were spicy and clear! They look delicious just sitting there. Let's dig in quickly 😋😋😋😋

Once the broth boils, add the vegetables evenly! Spread them nicely across both the spicy and clear broth!

Boil the vegetables first and the savory flavor really comes up, so the meat tastes even better when you add it after. Add only as much meat as you'll eat, let it bubble away, and done! 🤤🤤🤤🤤

The spicy shabu-shabu and the clear shabu-shabu are both ready! Now we can really eat, oh my 😭

The spicy broth is about Shin Ramyun-level heat, so it is kicky and hot, and the fresh vegetables keep a nice crunch!

The clear broth balances a gentle aroma with deep savory flavor, and the sweetness of the vegetables comes through. Overall it's clean and easy to eat, and the meat is so tender it just melts, it melts 😭

It's good on its own, but with the sauce the savory depth and flavor come up even more 🤭🤭🤭🤭

Wraps with shabu-shabu meat

For the wraps, I picked out a good mix of vegetables like carrot, perilla leaf, cucumber and pineapple, added a piece of the shabu-shabu meat, dipped it in sauce, and took a bite. Done! 👏👏👏👏

I really love wraps and used to make them at home a lot, but now it's not something we can eat together with Ppiyaki, so I can't make them often and I'd been craving them. Coming to Dadam and getting both shabu-shabu and wraps is so nice ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Finishing with both noodles and porridge

At Dadam Wirye Branch, shabu-shabu isn't the end! You can also use the leftover broth to make fried rice or porridge!

Ppiyaki's dad likes kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and I like juk (rice porridge), so we got both at once 😋😋😋😋 Finishing with noodles and porridge lets you enjoy the full richness of the broth :)

Dessert: americano and vanilla ice cream affogato

Skip the café and have your dessert at Dadam Wirye Branch too!

There's fresh vanilla ice cream from a machine and an americano as good as a café's! The americano is brewed with top-grade beans and tastes as good as a specialty shop's 😋😋😋😋

You can eat the vanilla ice cream in a cone, or put it in a cup and pour espresso over it to make an affogato! If Ppiyaki had come with us, I bet they'd have eaten it up 🤭🤭🤭🤭
