Mangwon Station bakery campagne good without jam: Boulangerie Copain
In short
Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡) is a bakery on Huiujeong-ro near Mangwon Station in Mapo, Seoul, run by a croissant master featured on the Korean TV show Master of Living. The blogger bought campagne, a croissant, sliced brioche and a chocolate banana pudding, and fell for the campagne, which is mild and nutty enough to eat with nothing on it. Boulangerie Copain is a Mangwon bakery worth a return visit for the campagne alone.

What kind of bakery is Boulangerie Copain near Mangwon Station?
Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡) is a bakery near Mangwon Station, between Mangridan-gil and Mangwon Market, run by a croissant master who was also featured on the TV show Master of Living. Mangridan-gil and Mangwon Market are insanely popular lately, right? Packed on weekdays, packed on weekends. And so many foreign tourists, too! And what goes with a hot spot? A bakery, of course?! Haha. So I went to the croissant master's bakery, Boulangerie Copain.

Is the Boulangerie Copain campagne good with nothing on it?
The campagne (French country bread) at Boulangerie Copain is perfect for tearing off and eating with no jam or butter: great texture, savory and nutty. It's nearly weapon-sized, so the price feels really reasonable. Haha.

I guess my bread taste is French country taste... or wait, since I love Korean food too, maybe my taste is just country?! Personally, I really, really love campagne. Hahaha. I like baguettes too. That chewy crust with the soft crumb inside, the combination is so good... And I like that it's nutty and not sweet. When I traveled to Paris, I bought one baguette in the morning and tore into it all day while going around the museums. Hahaha.
And... the campagne at Boulangerie Copain... is seriously delicious!!! I hear foreigners find it fascinating that Koreans just tear into campagne with no jam and no butter. Kind of like eating plain white rice in Korea? Hahaha. But personally I love eating campagne with nothing added, and this was exactly that kind of campagne: lively texture, plain, and endlessly nutty and delicious.
Is the Boulangerie Copain chocolate banana pudding too sweet?
The chocolate banana pudding at Boulangerie Copain is a dessert with banana, chocolate, peanut butter, egg biscuit and vanilla cream. The ingredients blended well and it wasn't very sweet. It was a surprise favorite for me!

Since it's a master's bakery, I mostly bought the basic breads. Hahaha. Brioche, croissant, campagne: breads where the baker's real skill shows. So I wanted to throw in a curveball and buy one pudding? And after tasting it... the various ingredients came together so well and it wasn't very sweet, so good!!! It had a nutty flavor and I could really taste the banana flesh, which I loved.

How does the croissant master's croissant taste?
The croissant at Boulangerie Copain was the textbook crispy outside, moist inside. It tears apart layer by layer, soft yet with distinct layers in the texture... so delicious! Hahaha. The buttery aroma and nutty flavor make it the kind of thing I'd want with coffee in the morning.
How versatile is the sliced brioche at Boulangerie Copain?
The sliced brioche at Boulangerie Copain is a pre-sliced brioche loaf, quite thick and generous, so it works well as a meal substitute or for sandwiches.

I love a master baker's loaf bread. Haha. That's why I bought the brioche. I got the sliced one to eat as a meal and also to make sandwiches! The soft brioche with its nutty aroma won me over too.

Is Boulangerie Copain worth a return visit?
What impressed me is that Boulangerie Copain doesn't stock a huge variety and instead bakes its core signature breads. If anything, that raised my trust? Hahaha. They keep baking inside nonstop!!! I especially loved the campagne, so if I'm craving it and happen to be near Mangwon, I'd go back.
