Jeonju hanok stay for two: Mulmangcho ondol room at Haetsalgadeuk

On a day when we wanted to slow down and just enjoy Jeonju Hanok Village, we stayed at Haetsalgadeuk. For this trip we spent one night in the Mulmangcho room, which sleeps two. During the day we walked around the village — Gyeonggijeon Shrine and more — hunting down good food, and in the evening we could unwind in the quiet, unhurried atmosphere of the hanok (traditional Korean house) and let the day settle.

The room we stayed in, Mulmangcho, sleeps two people. It's a hanok ondol (heated floor) room sized right for two, and having a private bathroom and toilet inside the room made things convenient. Since it's an ondol-style room, we could fully enjoy the traditional hanok experience of sitting on the floor or laying out bedding to sleep. It's a room well suited to a couple's trip or two friends traveling together in Jeonju.

Room amenities and what to pack

The room comes with air conditioning, a TV, and a hair dryer, and the bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap and towels, so all you really need to bring is your own toothbrush and you can pack light. Before the stay we only pictured the hanok atmosphere, but the basic comforts needed for an actual stay were all there, which made things comfortable. There was a floor mat, and we brought our own charger.

What we liked about staying here

What we liked most about Haetsalgadeuk was that it let us settle into Jeonju's slow pace instead of packing the schedule tight. Enjoying enough food and sightseeing during the day, resting a while at the guesthouse, then walking the quiet hanok village alleys again in the evening — all of that became part of the trip. Rather than being a destination in itself, the guesthouse worked like a comma, naturally carrying on the mood of the hanok village.

Why it's worth staying inside the hanok village

Jeonju Hanok Village has so much to see and eat that it's hard to cover in a single day, so staying overnight lets you travel at a much more relaxed pace. Taking an early morning stroll through the village, or wandering around Jeonju Hyanggyo when the crowds have thinned out, were both good options. With the guesthouse right inside the hanok village, we cut down on travel time and could focus more on the trip itself.
