Unsweetened powdered soy milk for breakfast: Garuseonsaeng Seoritae

I received this product and used it.

I often do not have much of an appetite in the morning, so I struggle to have a proper meal. Looking for something easy to drink, I tried mixing Garuseonsaeng Drinkable Raw Soy Milk Seoritae as a breakfast substitute.

What stood out for a breakfast substitute?

Even as a student, I used to drink soy milk while getting ready for school. It was easy to drink when chewing something felt like a burden in the morning, and it felt filling to me.

When choosing soy milk, I usually paid attention to additives and sugar. Freshly blended soy milk had a short shelf life, which made storage disappointing. This product caught my attention because it is unsweetened powdered soy milk made with only Korean seoritae black beans and sea salt.

How do you mix a serving, and what are the ingredients?

One stick mixed with 150–180 ml of water makes one glass of soy milk. You mix the powder each time you drink it.

I checked the ingredients first. Compared with the soy milk I used to drink often, I found myself looking at what ingredients were included.

I liked that it consists of just two ingredients: Korean seoritae black beans and sea salt.

What were the taste and texture like?

It is introduced as containing 8.1 g of protein per serving. The description also says that the powder is made by finely grinding whole soybeans, including the skins and soy pulp.

When I drank it, I noticed a thick, slightly chewy texture. It had a nutty flavor, and that texture felt more filling to me. Once mixed, it had a faint jade tint that also reminded me of a matcha latte.

Does it blend well in cold water, and can you adjust the thickness?

A black bean powder I had tried before did not mix well in cold water, so I needed a shaker. This one blended well even in cold water, which was convenient.

After pouring in water and shaking it, it became smooth soy milk. Unlike a ready-to-drink product, I also liked being able to change the amount of water and drink it at the thickness I prefer.

How else can you use the soy milk powder?

When I want a lighter drink, I can mix it lightly with water, milk, or soy milk. For a breakfast substitute, reducing the water makes it thick, which is nice for enjoying its nutty flavor and chewy texture.

One suggested use is seoritae kongguksu (noodles in cold soybean broth). You mix the powder thickly to make a soybean-broth base, then add cooked somyeon (thin wheat noodles).

How portable is it?

Each stick is individually wrapped, so it was easy to carry in my bag. Its format also suited keeping it on an office desk and mixing a drink in the morning.

What I liked was the nutty flavor and the ability to adjust the thickness. Because it is a powder that mixes in cold water, it was also easy to prepare simply in the morning.
