Step up the red brick stairs one by one and the clean exterior stands out. A tidy white building: Upper and Under near Sinnonhyeon Station.
What drinks does Upper and Under have?

The drinks range from clean, simple coffee to Upper and Under's signature cream latte and the mango bar sherbet latte. I tend to order a café's signature menu items!
Desserts at Upper and Under

There are financiers, pies, canelés and cakes, loads of my favorite kinds of desserts, so just browsing is so much fun..
It's a popular dessert spot and lots of people were taking desserts to go, so some were running low, but luckily there was still plenty for us to choose from. I was super curious about the cutest ones, the sweet corn pie and the chocolate banana pie..
In the end I decided on the cute sweet corn pie.. Desserts this pretty! It's the kind of pretty dessert café where you end up taking photos without even thinking.
Cake slices: from Basque cheesecake to tiramisu

I really love Basque cheesecake! After I'd finished ordering, I looked over and saw they had Basque cheesecake, ugh.. Next time I'll definitely order the Basque cheesecake. And an ube one? I'm dying to try it.

The cake slices include a refreshing lemon cake, raspberry cake, yangzhi ganlu (a mango-pomelo-sago dessert-style cake) and tiramisu, and I ordered the tiramisu cake. Tiramisu is the dessert I order most often at cafés..

Inside and on the terrace at Upper and Under

The inside of Upper and Under is spacious and clean. It's hot and humid outside in summer, but the air conditioning inside is nice and cool, and I live for coming to cafés in summer. haha

The terrace is tidy too! It was so hot today that most people sat indoors, but in nice weather this terrace is hugely popular.

The terrace is lush and green and really pretty. Eating dessert and drinking coffee here while reading a book would be paradise on earth.
What we ordered at Upper and Under, with prices

- Mango bar sherbet latte ₩9,000
- Einspänner ₩8,000
- Tiramisu cake ₩8,500
- Sweet corn pie ₩8,300
What does the mango bar sherbet latte taste like?

The mango bar sherbet latte (₩9,000) at Upper and Under has plenty of milk, so it's smooth, and mango sherbet is blended in here and there, making it mellow and full of flavor. A plain mango smoothie is a familiar taste and quite common, but this mango bar sherbet was a first for me.
This is exactly the kind of drink I love at a café: a tasty item you can only get here! The mango bar sherbet latte suits my taste so well.
Einspänner: my sister's best Einspänner ever

We also ordered the Einspänner (₩8,000), Upper and Under's signature cream latte! Eating dessert without coffee feels a bit disappointing. The cream on top of the Einspänner is thick and smooth, and when you sip it, the bittersweet coffee and mild milk underneath come up with it, so it's layered. A classy grown-up taste, you could say..
I kept going back for that thick, smooth cream on top. My sister ordered the Einspänner and says it's the best she's ever had. The mango bar sherbet latte I ordered was especially good, and the drinks overall were delicious and totally my style.

Sweet corn pie: crispy but not hard

The dessert I was most curious about! The sweet corn pie (₩8,300) at Upper and Under has a round dome of sweet corn cream on the pie with corn on top, a cute shape.
It's so pretty that it's hard to cut, but the cream is soft so the fork slides right in, and the pie is layered and crispy yet the crust isn't hard. The fork goes through easily, keeping the crispy texture without being tough or hard, so it went down easily. Sweet corn pie isn't a common item either, so I really enjoyed it.
Tiramisu cake: firm rather than moist

The tiramisu cake (₩8,500) at Upper and Under has a soft, sweet-bitter flavor, and it feels slightly firm rather than moist. Tiramisu is my favorite thing to look for in a café dessert case, so of course I ordered the tiramisu cake.
Yep, I remember now why I love tiramisu.. It was even more harmonious with coffee.
