Konkuk Univ. Station bakery café: window-seat kouign-amann at Stack

In short

Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch is a croissant and kouign-amann bakery café facing a playground in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin, Seoul. On a late-afternoon visit, the writer had a hazelnut kouign-amann and coffee at a 2nd-floor window seat at Stack Bakery and took pain au chocolat and croissants to go, though some breads had already sold out. Stack Bakery is a great spot for a window-view break with bread and coffee, but come in the morning for the widest choice of breads.

If you're looking for a café near Konkuk Univ. where you can enjoy good bread and coffee and sit back and relax, listen up! This time I visited a bakery café in Jayang-dong called Stack Bakery (스택베이커리).

How do you get to Stack Bakery Konkuk Univ. Station Main Branch?

Come out of Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 5 and head straight toward Daedong Apartments in Jayang-dong. It's right in front of a playground, so it's easy to find!

It's a bakery famous for croissants and kouign-amann (a caramelized, flaky pastry), and besides the bread itself, I loved the atmospheric window-view seats on the 2nd floor.

Inside Stack Bakery and the 2nd-floor seating

The 1st floor is the bread display, and the 2nd floor is the seating area. The moment you walk in there's a spread of bakery items right in front of you, which is a treat for the eyes, and if you want a coffee, just head up to the 2nd floor, where there are seats.

There were even autographs from celebrities on one side! Proof it's a legit Jayang-dong favorite, right? haha

The mood at the 2nd-floor window seats

My favorite part of Stack Bakery was the 2nd-floor window seats! You sit looking out at the view, so a cup of coffee there feels really atmospheric.

It's a nice vibe for taking a little break with coffee by the window, or chatting over good bread. I'd also recommend it if you like atmospheric spaces or want a café that's good for photos.

What breads and menu items does Stack Bakery have?

Stack Bakery sells not only baked goods but also sandwiches and coffee, and there are even set menus, so it's a good place to sit and stay. Next time I'll try a set menu. If I lived nearby, I think it would be great for brunch.

There are the signature croissants, choco flan and egg flan, plus pain au chocolat and red bean butter croissants (앙버터 croissant), which is a feast for the eyes.

Late-afternoon tip: come in the morning before things sell out

I was craving the hazelnut kouign-amann today, so I ordered it with a coffee and also got pain au chocolat and croissants to go. I went in the late afternoon and some breads had already sold out, so if you want more choice, go in the morning!! (pro tip)

How do the hazelnut kouign-amann and Americano taste at Stack Bakery?

The famous item at Stack Bakery is the kouign-amann! It's a pastry with a sweet, caramelized outside, and it has a different charm from ordinary bread.

I set everything up to eat at the window. Isn't the view outside so good? It's the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to sit there drinking coffee for ages.

When the leaves turn in autumn, it looks like a lovely spot to enjoy the foliage with a cup of coffee.

Stack Bakery's coffee is good too, not just the croissants and kouign-amann, so bread and a drink go well together here. Sitting with great baked goods and a cup of coffee, taking a little break, turned into a relaxing time.

The hazelnut kouign-amann has a hazelnut coating on the outside and a crisp, flaky pastry texture, so it pairs perfectly with coffee.

If you want good bread, coffee and an atmospheric space all together, I recommend this Jayang-dong bakery, Stack Bakery. Next time I'd love to go back and try other breads too 🥐
