These days, where you drink your coffee matters just as much as the coffee itself. Franchise familiarity has its place, but sometimes you want to sit somewhere that feels like the owner's personal taste down to every corner. That's the mood that led me to Nerdy Blue Burrow, a café near Wangsimni Station. Spoiler: the coffee and dessert were great, but so was the music playing overhead, and I ended up staying much longer than planned.

Where is Nerdy Blue Burrow, and what are its hours?
Nerdy Blue Burrow sits a short walk down an alley from Wangsimni Station. It's tucked slightly off the main road, so I was checking a map as I walked, until a teal-painted single-story building came into view and I knew I'd found it. The big NERDY BLUE logo painted on the exterior wall, along with a hand-lettered sign, fit oddly well with the old neighborhood scenery around it.

The café is located at 15 Gosanja-ro 12-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and is open from noon to 10pm (until 9pm on weekends). They've been small-batch roasting their own beans since 2017, and it's a coffeehouse with no espresso machine — hand-drip and cold brew only, which I found impressive. Pets are welcome too, with a sign posted at the entrance, and every line of it read like they'd thought carefully about both customers and animals.
Inside feels like a cozy hideout. Vintage lighting, old magazines, and a table set up with Rummikub and other board games. Behind the bar, the owner prepares coffee by hand, and the walls covered in handwritten recipe notes hint at how much time has built up in this space.

How does the coffee of the month, Peru Las Tiringues, taste?
I ordered the coffee of the month first. It's a menu where a specially selected specialty bean gets hand-dripped fresh each month, and this month's pick was Peru Las Tiringues anaerobic washed. Typica variety, grown on a farm at 1,900m elevation, with cup notes of cherry, floral, and cane sugar.
A little card came with the coffee explaining the bean's story, which was fun to read — I learned for the first time that Peru produces more organic arabica coffee than any other country in the world. It's served in an amber glass over ice, and from the first sip the acidity wasn't overdone, with a subtle cherry-like fruitiness rising up, followed by the soft sweetness of cane sugar lingering after. The clean finish typical of hand-drip coffee had me sipping away until it was gone before I knew it.

The signature hazelnut chocolate pudding at Nerdy Blue Burrow
For dessert, I went with the hazelnut chocolate pudding, which had a little star marked next to it on the menu. It uses Valrhona chocolate and hazelnut, and the moment it arrived I was struck by the look of it — chocolate cream piled up like a mountain in a glass bowl, topped with cocoa powder, hazelnuts, chocolate chips, mini cookies, and even pretzels.
One spoonful in, and the fluffy chocolate cream gives way to bits of cake and crunchy toppings, so the texture keeps changing as you go. It's rich without being cloying, and the saltiness of the pretzel pieces cuts through the sweetness now and then, so I never got tired of it. The mini financier cup that came alongside was almost like eating a whole separate dessert once dipped in the cream. And needless to say, it went perfectly with the coffee.

And above all, the music
Honestly, my favorite thing about Nerdy Blue Burrow was the playlist. True to the café's name, a stream of nerdy-leaning tracks kept playing, and it wasn't about recognizing songs and feeling nostalgic — it was that even unfamiliar songs made me want to keep listening. It's been a while since I've been at a café where I found myself just focused on the music while drinking coffee, and I was almost sorry to get up and leave.
Who will enjoy Nerdy Blue Burrow most?
I'd especially recommend this to anyone who loves specialty hand-drip coffee, wants some quiet alone-time in a low-key alley café, or is looking for a pet-friendly café near Wangsimni Station. Seating isn't huge, so visiting during a quieter time slot would make things easier.
If you're looking for a place in Wangsimni that's memorable for its coffee, its atmosphere, and its music all at once, Nerdy Blue Burrow is worth a stop. I think I'll be back just to find out what next month's coffee is.
This part was given to us on the house.
