Wonju gyukatsu restaurant: first in line at 5pm for striploin, Ichigyu

Ichigyu Wonju is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the ground floor of the Lotte Cinema building in Musil-dong, Wonju. The writer was first in line before the weekend break time ended at 5pm and had two striploin gyukatsu and a Kirin draft beer; seared in butter for 30 seconds at a time, the gyukatsu came out crisp outside and tender inside, and with wasabi it was good enough to finish every grain of rice. The restroom upkeep was disappointing, but Ichigyu Wonju satisfied on taste, friendliness and cleanliness, and the writer would happily go back.

Budget pasta & pizza set in Jeongbalsan, Ilsan: Garlic Cook & Story

Garlic Cook & Story Western Dome is a pasta and Western-style restaurant on the 2nd floor of Western Dome Building B in Jeongbalsan-dong, Ilsan (Goyang). After booking through Naver for a Saturday lunch, the blogger had the Friends/Couples A Set of carbonara, aglio olio, gorgonzola pizza and 2 drinks for 34,900 won, which tasted like the nostalgic Western food of childhood, though the aglio olio was on the salty side. Garlic Cook & Story Western Dome is a good-value date spot, but finding the restaurant and paying the bill were a bit of a hassle.

Western restaurant in Musil-dong, Wonju: spicy rose pasta at Yolk

Yolk Wonju Musil is a brunch and pasta restaurant on Mandae Park-gil in Musil-dong, Wonju. The writer, a regular for 13 years since high school, came for a weekday lunch in the second-floor seating area. She ordered the 49,000 won set for two, with Cajun chicken salad, barbecue pilaf and spicy beef rose pasta. Her verdict: Yolk Wonju Musil tastes the same after 13 years, if not even better.

Hapjeong Station Korean BBQ lending power banks: Ijjok, Seoul

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal (이쪽 김치삼겹살) is a Korean BBQ restaurant in a basement space off Dongmak-ro near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul, grilling Dodram Hanpork sow meat. Arriving just past 5pm on a weekend as the first customer, the writer ordered the 2–3 person set (two servings of fresh pork belly, one whole pork jowl, steamed egg and doenjang jjigae) for 55,000 won, and Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal was nearly full by 6pm. A few chewy bits in the pork belly aside, the aged kimchi grilled alongside the jowl, the large earthenware steamed egg and the free power bank loan made the meal a satisfying one.
