Dongcheon-dong shabu-kalguksu with a noodle-room tour: Yun Ujae

In short

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Gogiro173beon-gil in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. On a weekend evening the writer joined the CatchTable wait, looked into the noodle room where the dough is foot-kneaded on site, then ate the signature shabu-kalguksu in white broth with 70g of added sirloin, crispy seafood pajeon and flat kalguksu noodles. With baby chairs and a dedicated parking lot, Yun Ujae is an easy choice for a family dinner.

I visited Yun Ujae Gogi-ri Shabu Kalguksu in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. It's a spot where you can enjoy the shabu-shabu and kalguksu that Gogi-ri is famous for, all in one place. I was especially looking forward to trying their self-made noodles, researched in-house, along with fresh beef.

How does the weekend evening wait work at Yun Ujae?

We went on a weekend evening! We arrived right at dinnertime and there was already a wait. During lunch and dinner peak hours, you register first on CatchTable, then fill out an order form. There's also a waiting area set up inside the restaurant.

While waiting, I got to peek into the noodle room~ dough kneaded the traditional foot-treading way, aged for 48 hours — all that time and care packed in!!!

Inside Yun Ujae: the dining room and eating with kids

🤍 Restaurant vibe The restaurant overall is clean, with a white-toned, café-like atmosphere that would work well both for a family meal and as a date spot for couples. Baby chairs are set up for those visiting with children, so eating with a little one is comfortable too. It's a clean yet relaxed atmosphere, easy to enjoy a meal in without any fuss.

What we ordered: white-broth shabu-kalguksu with 70g of sirloin

🥢 What we ordered Here's what we went with:

  • Signature shabu-kalguksu — white broth
  • Signature crispy seafood pajeon
  • 70g added sirloin

That's what we ordered.

They brought the tableware over sitting in hot water, which gave a real sense of how thoroughly they handle hygiene.

First, the shabu-kalguksu is the style where you cook fresh meat in a clear, clean broth. Being able to move from shabu-shabu straight into kalguksu made it a really filling meal. What's special here is that they make their own noodles in-house — apparently they spent a long time researching how to make good noodles. Even the dough is managed carefully depending on temperature and humidity, so I couldn't help but look forward to the kalguksu flavor.

The beef is Australian S-grade, and they use beef that hasn't been sitting long since slaughter. Through their research on meat, they learned that the thinner the meat is cut, the smaller the gap between grades feels, so they pay close attention to how they manage the beef.

Shabu-shabu loaded with minari (water dropwort)~ go ahead and add the beef!

Dipping it in sauce with the cheongyang chili that comes alongside makes it spicy but clean-tasting.

Crispy seafood pajeon: too tough for our child

And the crispy seafood pajeon (savory seafood pancake) we ordered alongside! True to its name, the outside was fried up crispy, and it went great with the shabu-kalguksu. If you're a fan of seafood pajeon, it's worth ordering as a side. Whether it's the base seasoning or the chili mixed in, it seemed a bit too spicy for preschool-age kids~ so only the adults ended up enjoying it!! Mom and dad's plate~~~~

Kalguksu noodles plus flat kalguksu noodles

And we went with kalguksu noodles plus flat kalguksu noodles~ the staff member personally added the flat noodles and explained the timing and how to eat them~ it was unusual enough that even the kids found it fun, and eating it, it was like sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) but chewier and tasty.

Is Yun Ujae worth it for a family dinner?

Searching for a good restaurant in Dongcheon-dong, I ended up at Yun Ujae Gogi-ri Shabu Kalguksu, and what I liked most was being able to enjoy shabu-shabu, house-made kalguksu, and even fried rice all in one sitting. Knowing they research and make their own noodles in-house made me feel the care put into the kalguksu, and pairing it with fresh beef and crispy seafood pajeon made for a satisfying meal. With baby chairs for visiting with kids and convenient parking, it was solid as a family dining spot too. If you're looking for a good restaurant around Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin, this is a place worth trying for shabu-shabu and kalguksu together. 😊
